η-Pseudolinearity

The notion of η-pseudolinearity is introduced. First, some characterizations of an η-pseudolinear function are obtained. Then characterizations of the solution set of an η-pseudolinear program are derived. The paper generalizes various results on pseudolinear functions and programs.

Scale functions in equilibrium selection games

We present here an evolutionary game model, and address the issue of equilibrium selection working with the scale function of a diffusion process describing the dynamics of population processes with mutation modeled as white noise. This model is the same as the one in Foster and Young (1990) but with a different interpretation at the boundaries and with different mutation modelings. First, we justifiably assume that the boundaries of the solution of the stochastic differential equation are absorbing so that the first boundary of the interval [0,1] hit will determine the equilibrium selected. Then, working with the scale function, we obtain for 2×2 symmetric games and different mutation parameters, some new and interesting equilibrium selection results. The aim of this article is to describe another method of approach in evolutionary games with mutation which we believe will prove to be very useful in studying more general normal form games and different mutation modelings.     

East Asian FDI in Europe and Germany

During the 1980s foreign direct investment (FDI) expanded remarkably. Simultaneously, the regional structure of foreign direct investment changed. This relationship is discernible among industrial countries, as well as between industrial and developing countries. Of particular importance is the interface of foreign trade relations between the “Triad” and the economically dynamic East Asian and Pacific area. This article highlights, in particular, foreign investment coming from Eastern Asia into Europe and Germany.     

Trends in institutional affiliation of authors who publish in the three leading general interest economics journals

Trends in the institutional affiliation of authors of papers published in the American Economic Review, the Journal of Political Economy, and the Quarterly Journal of Economics are traced over the last four decades. The share of pages published in these three journals that were authored by faculty at universities employing the most prolific publishers declined markedly around 1970. Possible explanations include the expanded use of double-blind refereeing, the establishment of editorial committees, and increased emphasis on publishing at a broader set of research colleges and universities.
