Knowledge management in technology-focused firms in emerging economies: Caveats on capabilities, networks, and real options 总被引:9,自引:7,他引:2
Garry D. Bruton Gregory G. Dess Jay J. Janney 《Asia Pacific Journal of Management》2007,24(2):115-130
In mature economies, technology-focused industries and the management of knowledge are widely viewed as critical to success.
Increasingly, in emerging economies technology-focused industries and the management of knowledge are also viewed as important.
To date, however, little is known about such activities in emerging economies. Particularly, it is not understood how knowledge
management can impact efforts for corporate renewal in such environments. The literatures of the resource-based view of the
firm, social capital/network theory, and real options theory are vital to providing insights for technology-focused industries
and the management of knowledge in mature economies. In this paper we focus on the caveats when applying such theoretical
foundations to emerging economies. To illustrate these issues we will draw on the largest emergent economy in the world, China.

Venture capital in China: Past, present, and future 总被引:8,自引:6,他引:2
This article reviews the literature on venture capital in China and examines where China’s venture capital industry has been
and where it is likely to go in the future. Since the 1980s, venture capital in China has grown steadily alongside the robust
national economy. The future is likely to offer even greater opportunities, as entrepreneurs are encouraged and property rights
improve. However, there will also be a period of transition as the market continues to mature and as new legal structures
and commercial arrangements emerge. Venture capital in China has many interesting differences from that in Western countries.
The venture capital industry is shaped by the institutional context and China is no exception to this. This article also examines
some specific differences between the system in China and that of the United States. Future prospects for venture capital
are also appraised as China continues its transition to a market economy.

The Ricegrowers' Cooperative Limited is a single-desk seller of NSW Japonica rice on the export market. Confidential monthly price data supplied by the Cooperative were used to examine 'pricing-to-market' in four of its major export markets. The hypothesis of a competitive market was rejected. The Cooperative has been able to vary mark-ups over different markets and with respect to the importer's currency in each market. The exchange rate results in particular suggest that the Cooperative has been able to exercise market power to obtain price premiums. 相似文献

The present paper reports an economic evaluation of the long-term benefits to Australia of research by the Cooperative Research Centre for Weed Management Systems (CRC) into the improved management of vulpia , the major annual grass weed of temperate pastures in New South Wales and Victoria. Vulpia reduces livestock production by competition with more desirable pasture species, by the production of low quality feed at critical times of the grazing cycle, and by injury to animals. A 20-year stochastic benefit-cost analysis indicated that reducing the impacts of vulpia in these pastures produced a mean net present value of $A58.3 million and a mean benefit-cost ratio of 33:1. Temperate pasture zone wool producers would capture the largest shares of these benefits, Australian consumers would gain, but wool producers in the rest of Australia would suffer welfare losses from vulpia reductions in the temperate pasture zones. 相似文献

abstract Instead of traditional principal–agent conflicts espoused in most research dealing with developed economies, principal–principal conflicts have been identified as a major concern of corporate governance in emerging economies. Principal–principal conflicts between controlling shareholders and minority shareholders result from concentrated ownership, extensive family ownership and control, business group structures, and weak legal protection of minority shareholders. Such principal–principal conflicts alter the dynamics of the corporate governance process and, in turn, require remedies different from those that deal with principal–agent conflicts. This article reviews and synthesizes recent research from strategy, finance, and economics on principal–principal conflicts with an emphasis on their institutional antecedents and organizational consequences. The resulting integration provides a foundation upon which future research can continue to build. 相似文献

State-owned enterprises (SOEs) contribute approximately 10% of the world’s GDP. SOEs at one time were predicted to disappear from the economic landscape of the world, but today SOEs are growing more prevalent in the world economy. The current theories of the firm that form the pillars of the management discipline largely ignore the theoretical differences that SOEs introduce into the conceptualization of the firm. Therefore, we extend four core theories of the firm by incorporating SOEs as a mainstream (not special or marginal) organizational form into these theories. We focus specifically on property rights theory, transaction cost theory, agency theory, and resource-based theory, culminating in a research agenda with 12 testable propositions. 相似文献

A theory of the allocation of producer levies earmarked for downstream promotion is developed and applied to quarterly series (1970:2–1988:4) on red-meats advertising by the Australian Meat and Live-stock Corporation. Robust inferences about program efficiency are contained in the coefficients of changes in promotion effort regressed against movements in farm price and quantity. Empirical evidence of program efficiency is inconclusive. While the deeper issue of efficient disbursement of funds remains an open question, there is evidence, at least, of efficient taxation. 相似文献
