Modeling and predicting the development of the CES of Russia,Belarus, Kazakhstan,and Ukraine

The paper describes new approaches to the prediction of integration processes in the post-Soviet space and to the macroeconomic evaluation of the integration effect with the use of a cross-country model of structural interactions.     

THE SUPPLY OF NON-DEGRADED AGRICULTURAL LAND*

Profitability increases because of favourable product or factor price changes provide incentives for profit-maximising farmers, who use soils in conjunction with other cooperant inputs, to increase their investment in the preservation of soil-quality, whenever there exist economically viable technologies for preserving soils. However, when such technologies do not exist, regardless of whether farmers utilise soils as non-renewable or renewable resources, such profitability increases are associated with a long-run deterioration in soil quality.     

Infrastructure and Technology Constraints to Agricultural Development in the Humid and Subhumid Tropics of Africa

Abstract: Green Revolution technologies have not been widely adopted in Africa. What are the chances that they will play a major role in the near future? This paper shows that the enabling infrastructure, especially rural roads and irrigation systems are not likely to be in place in the humid and sub-humid tropics of Africa in the next 20–30 years. Consequently a typology of the more appropriate set of technology that is input and infrastructure efficient, has high returns to seasonal labor and is sustainable is presented. Research institutions should be geared up now to produce them for use in 10–20 years. Résumé: Les technologies issues de la Révolution verte n'ont pas été adoptées à grande échelle en Afrique. Dans quelle mesure pourront-elles jouer un rôle majeur dans un proche avenir? Il est démontré, dans cet article, que les infrastructures d'appui comme les routes rurales et les réseaux d'irrigation, ne seront probablement pas mises en place dans les pays de l'Afrique tropicalc humide ct subhumide avant les 20 ou 30 prochaines années. L'auteur présente, par conséquent, la typologie d'un arsenal technologique plus approprié: viable, rentable en termes de travail saisonnier, et efficace en termes d'intrants et d'infrastructures. Les institutions de recherche devraient maintenant s'atteler a produire ccs outils technologiqucs qui seront utilisés durant les 10 à 20 prochaines années.     

Economy of Russia’s Northern regions: Investment in fixed assets

This article discusses the features of the dynamics of investment in fixed assets in northern regions and the main factors of its rapid growth before the crisis and sharp decline in the crisis period. The contribution of individual regions to the growth rate of investment in the entire economy of the North is determined, and the territorial structure of investment by sectors and types of economic activity and the main sources of financing and changes in the structure of investment are investigated. An evaluation of the tendency towards investment and the investment attractiveness of northern regions are given.     

Industry Investment Analysis of Activities of Russian Telecommunications Companies

The paper has proposed an algorithm for the industry investment analysis based on the study of the generalized financial indicators of the telecommunications industry. The analysis has made it possible to evaluate key macroeconomic indicators of the economic activity of the industry, to comparatively evaluate the efficiency of its individual companies, and to determine their investment attractiveness.
