The paper evaluates a Victorian environmental account of the pollution of the River Wandle. This account was produced during a period of social and environmental crisis, when there were no significant industrial environmental regulations. This problematising external environmental account provides valuable insights into the historical development of social and environmental accounting. Our analysis located this account within an institutional reform programme to create systems of governance to mitigate the damage arising from unfettered industrial growth. We argue that problematising external environmental accounting has a longer tradition than previously recognised in the literature and predates corporate social and environmental reporting. 相似文献

Landlords offering a house in the rental market face a difficult strategic pricing decision. The revenue maximizing decision
for the landlord involves a tradeoff between the rental rate and time on the market. Because the turnover of renters is higher
than owners, and because the landlord must bear some carrying costs on a vacant house, pricing the rent too high may decrease
revenue due to a higher vacancy period and pricing it too low may reduce the revenue when occupied. While there is substantial
research on the relationship between listed prices and time on the market for freehold interests, this is the first study
to provide empirical evidence on the relationship between asking rent, contract rent and time on the market for single family
residential rental (leasehold) property interests. We present two models; a rental price model and a duration model for time-on-the
market. Using data from the Dallas–Fort Worth area we find that landlords who set a lower asking rent relative to predicted
rent can expect a shorter marketing period for their properties. The results also indicate that overpricing the asking rent
and then lowering it at a later date leads to a longer marketing time (after the reset) and often a lower rent. These finding
are reasonably robust for low-, mid-, and higher-valued rental properties.

Since the turn of the century, independent sales contractors have emerged as an important and growing sales and distribution channel. This study, guided by theories of attitude-behavior relation, constructs and tests a conceptual independent sales contractors (ISC) relationship quality scale. The findings support the proposition that relationship quality is a composite of attitudes and behavioral intentions. Evolving volatility is a dominant feature observed in most financial time series and a key parameter used in option pricing and many other financial risk analyses. A number of methods for non-parametric scale estimation are reviewed and assessed with regard to the stylized features of financial time series. A new non-parametric procedure for estimating historical volatility is proposed based on local maximum likelihood estimation for the t-distribution. The performance of this procedure is assessed using simulated and real price data and is found to be the best among estimators we consider. Given the growing debate concerning the use of alternative presentation formats in corporate financial reporting, Volmer's recent paper in this journal is to be welcomed (June, 1992). Volmer conducts an experiment which compares students' perceptions of graphical and numerical presentations of financial information. From this he concludes that (i) graphical presentations improve the communication of financial information, and (ii) the integration of accounting research and teaching constitutes an effective alternative teaching method. We agree with the general message of Volmer's paper, and hope that subsequent studies will build on his exploratory work. This comment suggests a number of areas for future developments. This paper aims to first identify gender differences in perception and evaluation of retail agglomerations, and second, discuss the implications of these differences for marketing and management. Based on a conceptual model 2151 agglomeration shoppers were surveyed using interviewer-administered questionnaires. Structural equation modelling revealed that accessibility, parking and infrastructure are perceived differently between gender groups. The attractiveness in terms of satisfaction, retention proneness and patronage intention was also evaluated distinctively. Nevertheless, when examining the impact of the perceived attributes on agglomeration attractiveness, there was no difference. In both settings, the retail tenant mix and the atmosphere are the main antecedents of attractiveness. Finally, an importance–performance analysis offers managers a method for prioritising their marketing efforts considering gender differences. 相似文献

The authors investigate how purchasing managers combine information about product offerings' values and prices to make purchase decisions. The results of two field studies show that managers do not regard monetarily-equivalent changes in value and price to be the same. Using reference-dependent theory, the authors show that, rather than a single utility function, separate functions for value and price appear to underlie purchasing managers' decisions. We consider the problem of adjudicating conflicting claims in the context of a variable population. A property of rules is “lifted” if whenever a rule satisfies it in the two-claimant case, and the rule is bilaterally consistent, it satisfies it for any number of claimants. We identify a number of properties that are lifted, such as equal treatment of equals, resource monotonicity, composition down and composition up, and show that continuity, anonymity and self-duality are not lifted.
