This paper identifies the empirical stylized features of consumer price setting behavior in Portugal using two micro-datasets
underlying the consumer price index. The main conclusions are: one in every four prices change each month; there is a considerable
degree of heterogeneity in price setting practices; prices of goods change more often than prices of services; price reductions
are common, as they account to around 40% of total price changes; price changes are, in general, sizeable; finally, the price
setting patterns seem to depend on the level of inflation as well as on the type of outlet.

Ethnic and cultural diversity is an increasing reality in the US workplace. The current study highlights the importance of acknowledging the culturally heterogeneous nature of ethnic groups, and the need to focus on social identity characteristics such as cultural values when assessing group differences. We demonstrate that cultural values (i.e., individualism) contribute to employees' experiences of work‐family conflict beyond the effects of ethnicity. Specifically, we introduce a model informed by social identity theory that explains why acculturation is related to work‐family conflict. The model was tested with a sample of 309 employed Caucasian and Hispanic Americans. An empirical test of our model provides evidence that individualism mediates the relationship between language‐ and social‐based acculturation and work‐family conflict, even when controlling for ethnicity. Additionally, alternative models further reveal that the effects of acculturation and individualism contribute to work interfering with family. As an implication of the current study, we suggest that researchers and organizational managers should consider the cultural values of their diverse workforce when implementing policies that affect conflict between work and family. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. 相似文献

This paper examines the performance of independent financial advisors (IFAs) in terms of their involvement in innovation activities, participation in business networks and open innovation as a strategy to cope with difficult market conditions caused by the recent economic downturn. Performance is assessed on the basis of average sales growth for years 2010–2012. The results of the study suggest that IFAs’ involvement in innovation activities, participation in networks and open innovation enhances business performance. The managerial implications are that IFAs may be able to achieve higher sales growth by participating in networks and engaging in innovation activities. The originality of this paper is that it provides an empirical assessment of possible strategies to support sales growth in small financial service sector firms facing volatile market conditions. 相似文献

A strong dichotomy has traditionally been established between qualitative and quantitative approaches. This question has been the subject of intense debate from a methodological point of view, and in recent years there are clear signs that the conflict is being overcome; nevertheless, we are still some way from a genuine position of complementarity and integration, and the issue remains to be considered in the process of theorization along the tortuous path that leads from the particular to the general. The proposal in this article takes a further step forward as regards this question, this time with respect to the study of interactive behaviour. The key is once again the consideration of a “complete unit” of analysis, but the logic of the observational methodology process enables the perspectives to be sequenced: the study begins with a predominantly qualitative approach before subjecting the data to a given type of recording (through the important support of field formats) and coding (preferably computerized), thus producing a matrix of formally interchangeable data; finally, the criterion is reversed and the study continues under a predominantly quantitative perspective. 相似文献

The importance of human resources as a fundamental channel towards the competitiveness and sustainability of firms is now theoretically unchallenged. This article provides an overall characterisation of the main human resources management (HRM) practices implemented in Portugal and compares them with the benchmark models proposed in the literature. To evaluate the degree to which HRM practices diverge from these benchmark models, this article relies on the analysis of five criteria: i) How do the main HRM practices fit the existing management models (familiar, professional or mixed); ii) How does the HRM conform to a work organisation of the matricial type; iii) To identify whether the role of HRM is essentially administrative or strategic; iv) To identify where the responsibility for HRM lies within the firms operating in Portugal; and v) To characterise the relation between HRM and work organisation in Portugal. Drawing on a representative sample of firms operating in Portugal, we identify three clusters that allow us to characterise and analyse the stylised HRM practices implemented in Portugal (network-based, familiar-based or bureaucratised). There is a growing interest in understanding consumer ethical actions in relation to their dealings with firms. This paper examines whether there are differences between Northern and Southern European Union (EU) consumers' perceptions of ethical consumer behaviour using Muncy and Vitell's (1992) Consumer Ethics Scale (CES). The study samples 962 university students across four Northern EU countries (Germany, Denmark, Scotland, The Netherlands) and four Southern EU countries (Portugal, Spain, Italy, Greece). This paper formalizes the idea that input transactions might be used to implement side payments among colluding firms. A model
is proposed to analyze the effect of backward integration on collusive outcomes in a downstream duopoly with asymmetric marginal
costs. Vertical integration expands the set of collusive outcomes that are sustainable for a given realization of the discount
factor. This is an additional effect of vertical integration that antitrust authorities should consider. Side payments implemented
by input sales are more relevant the larger the difference in marginal costs, since they allow for the shifting of production
towards the relatively more efficient firms, while maintaining firms’ incentives to collude. A price of the input above that
posted by an alternative source or sales of the input below cost may be observed, depending on the realization of downstream
firms’ costs.

We report experimental results on a series of ten one-shot two-person 3×3 normal form games with unique equilibrium in pure strategies played by non-economists. In contrast to previous experiments in which game theory predictions fail dramatically, a majority of actions taken coincided with the equilibrium prediction (70.2%) and were best-responses to subjects' stated beliefs (67.2%). In constant-sum games, 78% of actions taken were predicted by the equilibrium model, outperforming simple K-level reasoning models. We discuss how non-trivial game characteristics related to risk aversion, efficiency concerns and social preferences may affect the predictive value of different models in simple normal form games. 相似文献
