This special issue focuses on empirical and theoretical papers that help us to better understand the strategy and governance of entrepreneurial networks, such as franchise chains, alliances, and cooperative networks. The following central themes are covered: (I) Which formal governance mechanisms do entrepreneurial networks use in order to reduce transaction cost/agency cost and to increase strategic value? (II) What is the role of relational governance mechanisms (such as information exchange and social ties) for the performance outcomes in franchise chains and cooperatives? (III) Which alliance strategies do entrepreneurial firms pursue to realize a competitive advantage, and what is the impact of resources and capabilities on performance outcomes of entrepreneurial firms. To address these issues, insights from organizational economics (transaction cost theory, agency theory, signaling theory), strategic management perspectives (resource-based, knowledge-based and organizational capabilities theory), entrepreneurship theory and the relational governance view are used. 相似文献

Choosing the right counterpart can have a significant impact on negotiation success. Unfortunately, little research has studied
such negotiation counterpart decisions. Three studies examined the influence of past negotiations on preferences to negotiate
again with a counterpart. Study 1 found that the more favorable a past negotiated agreement the stronger the preference to
negotiate with the counterpart in the future. Moreover, this relation was mediated through liking of the counterpart. Study
2 manipulated the difficulty of achieving a favorable agreement in the negotiation and found a significant effect of this
situational factor such that subsequent counterpart preferences were less favorable when the negotiation was difficult. Similar
to Study 1, this effect was mediated through liking of the counterpart. Study 3 examined the possibility of debiasing negotiator
preferences from the biasing influence of situational characteristics by providing relevant information about the negotiation
situation. Replicating the results of Study 2, negotiation difficulty affected counterpart preferences before additional information
was given or when irrelevant information was given. However, once negotiators received relevant information on the negotiation
situation, the effect of negotiation difficulty disappeared. Theoretical and practical implications are discussed. 相似文献

The objective of this article is to conceptualize the value creation process in brand alliances using a dynamic approach,
based upon the literature on strategic alliances and inter organizational relationships, to explain the importance of organizational
components in brand alliances. The research question is to identify the key components which allow the creation and sustaining
of value: context, actors, objectives, behaviors, resources, and governance mechanisms, internal and external conditions affecting
the value creation process. Then the framework is applied in case studies of brand alliances in the food market. We show that
the impact of these components depends on the nature of the organizations involved, on market conditions and on the manner

This paper offers exploratory insights into the factors influencing the emergence of new export ventures operating in a low-technology sector: the aquaculture industry—a largely understudied context in international entrepreneurship. Peculiarities of new industries can make them particularly favourable to the creation of new ventures, and yet research has been limited examining the role of industry and environmental conditions in the emergence of international new ventures. As industry context and stage of firm development influences the appropriateness of theories for explaining firm internationalisation, this study in particular seeks to address two research questions: Firstly, what are the factors influencing the internationalisation of new ventures in a low-technology sector: the Irish aquaculture industry? Second, what role does industry structure play in influencing the internationalisation of new ventures in the Irish aquaculture industry? Corporate Social Responsibility in Western Europe: An Institutional Mirror

In spite of extensive research on corporate social responsibility (CSR) and its link with economic and social performance,
few studies have investigated the institutional determinants of CSR. This article draws upon neo-institutional theory and
comparative institutional analysis to compare the influence of different institutional environments on CSR policies of European
firms. On the basis of a dataset of European firms, we find that firms from the more liberal market economies of the Anglo-Saxon
countries score higher on most dimensions of CSR than firms in the more coordinated market economies (CMEs) in Continental
Europe. This result lends support to the view of voluntary CSR practices in liberal economies as being a substitute for institutionalized
forms of stakeholder participation. Meanwhile, CSR tends not to mirror more institutionalized forms of stakeholder coordination.
Instead, in CMEs, CSR often takes on more implicit forms. Our analysis also shows that national institutional and sectoral-level
factors have an asymmetric effect – strongly influencing the likelihood of firms adopting ‘minimum standards’ of CSR, but
having little influence on the adoption of ‘best practices’. 相似文献

The use of technology in marketing has become an increasingly important competitive tool in developing and maintaining efficient and productive customer relationships. However, the ethics of using this technology has received little attention. This study investigates how and if marketing organizations are adapting their ethics policies to incorporate use of sales technology (ST). Based on in-depth interviews with executives from a variety of highly regulated to nonregulated business-to-business and business-to-consumer industries, our results show that, although most organizations indeed have codes of ethics, there appears to be a gray area of how these codes address ST. Further, it appears that monitoring the ethical use of ST varies and can be a frustrating and time-consuming issue for marketing and sales executives. Implications of our findings are discussed for the benefit of marketing practitioners, ethics managers, and researchers. 相似文献

In France, Fair Trade arrived on the scene in the late twentieth century, and since then has passed through several experimental phases before becoming an enduring “realistic” economic alternative. To understand the transformation, this article defines Fair Trade as a social construct issues and tensions of which change depending on the point of entry. By conducting a secondary analysis of several data sets from varied sources, including documentary material, interviews, and observations, the authors trace the history of Fair Trade in France, define its introduction as a system, describe its institutionalization, and contribute to a greater understanding of how its ideals have changed and become more professional over time. The analyses reveal that the term “Fair Trade” has become ambiguous, spanning divergent and conflicting ideas and projects, including opening and closing conventional market systems and alter-globalization and anti-globalization. 相似文献

This study focuses on the differences in the perception of business ethics across two groups of management students from France and Romania (n = 220). Data was collected via the ATBEQ to measure preferences for three business philosophies: Machiavellianism, Social Darwinism, and Moral Objectivism. The results show that Romanian students present more favorable attitudes toward Machiavellianism than French students; whereas, French students valued Social Darwinism and Moral Objectivism more highly. For Machiavellianism and Moral Objectivism the results are consistent with the literature and our hypotheses. However, contrary to our expectations, we find that Social Darwinism is more important in France than Romania. The results indicate that religious practice does not influence preferences for the three business philosophies. In terms of gender differences, women have less favorable attitudes toward Machiavellianism and more favorable attitudes toward Moral Objectivism than men. 相似文献

Some researchers have argued that firms with favorable environmental performance are more likely to provide voluntary environmental disclosure, while others have argued that firms with poor environmental performance are most likely to disclose. The authors propose a curvilinear relation between environmental performance and environmental disclosure that is moderated by visibility. Data were obtained from S&P 500 firms queried by Ceres’ Climate Disclosure Project. Results show a U-shaped environmental performance–environmental disclosure relation and a main effect for visibility but no moderating effect for visibility on the U-shaped environmental performance–environmental disclosure relation.
