In recent years, manufacturers of consumer and industrial goods as well as service firms have been increasingly thinking in global terms and paying more attention to sales promotion in their overall promotional programmes and strategies. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the consumer sales promotion practices of consumer goods producing companies in the advanced developing country of Turkey. It was discovered that sales promotion activities are gaining importance in overall promotional practices of Turkish companies, though there are differences in its use by type of industry, size of company, area of business and locus of decision-making within the firm. Furthermore, differences were detected between companies using sales promotions versus other forms of promotional techniques such as mass media advertising, personal selling and publicity. Study findings may be applicable to other developing countries that are at a similar level of socio-economic, market and technological development as Turkey.  相似文献

The significance of tourism in Canada is becoming increasingly recognized, with tourism in the top five of foreign exchange earners. This article examines the implications of defining a new market segment - that of ‘activity packages’ sought by vacation travellers. Nova Scotia - where the travel industry is the biggest generator of foreign dollars - is taken as an example of a tourist destination rich in tourism activities. Factor analysis is used to identify 12 activity packages which could facilitate more specific marketing of tourism resources, with advertising aimed at well-defined market segments.  相似文献

The purpose of this article is to examine consumer protection, complaint, and statisfaction/dissatisfaction behaviors in developing countries with special reference to an advanced developing country — Turkey. The study was designed to describe consumer complaint handling issues in urban Turkey. It tries to explain consumer behavior differences along five consumer product categories as to the frequency and manner of consumer complaining behavior and suggests insights into the effectiveness of consumer complaint handling policies in Turkey. It is maintained that the study results are also applicable to other developing countries which are at a similar level of socio-economic and technological development.Erdener Kaynak, Ph.D. is currently a Professor of Marketing at the School of Business Administration of The Pennsylvania State University at Harrisburg, Middletown, Pennsylvania. Dr. Kaynak has served as a business consultant and training adviser to a number of Turkish, Canadian, Dutch, American, Peruvian, Yugoslavian, and international organizations. A prolific author, he has published over one hundred articles in refereed scholarly and professional journals as well as being the author or co-author of thirteen books. Dr. Kaynak is also Executive Editor ofInternational Business Press (IBP), an imprint of the Haworth Press Inc. of New York, London, and Sydney. In this capacity, in addition to being responsible for the international business book series, he edits several international marketing journals.Orsay Kucukemiroglu is presently an Assistant Professor of Business Administration at the Pennsylvania State University, York Campus, York, Pennsylvania. He holds a B.S. degree in Economics, an M.A. in Statistics, and an M.Sc. in Business Administartion and Operations Research. He also holds a CPA designation in the Communwealth of Pennsylvania. Mr. Kucukemiroglu has published articles in such journals asDecision Sciences, International Journal of Bank Marketing, Journal of Professional Services Marketing as well as presenting papers before various learned societies in North America and in Europe.Yavuz Odabasi is Professor of Marketing and Director of the Vocational Training School of Anadolu University in Eskisehir, Turkey. A graduate of Turkish and U.S. universities, Dr. Odabasi was a faculty member at Erciyes University before joining his current university. ABSTRACT

Current research categorically studies two conceptually different but practically related concepts of product involvement level and demographic factors in the context of the relatively underresearched consumer base of Pakistan. It was established that the buying behavior of consumers is influenced by their gender, income level, and culture of respective cities where they reside and strongly moderated by the degree of involvement in a particular product category. Market segmentation on the basis of demographic factors and involvement level can lead to more precision in designing effective marketing strategies. In the current study, the authors also point out the sample biases that most previous studies in Pakistan exhibited. The focus of previous consumer behavior studies conducted in Pakistan was mostly metropolitan areas. The current study successfully gives evidence that to understand the intricacies of consumer behavior in a diversified society, the study sample should not be limited to metropolitan areas but should be extended to smaller cities and rural areas as well, because people in less commercially viable cities display different buying patterns. These findings are especially relevant for developing countries where there is great inequality in regional development.  相似文献

Past studies have indicated that there are cross-cultural/national differences among people's perception of time and how they use time available for them and what factors affect their time-related purchasing and consumption decisions. It is stated that each culture or subculture could have its own dominant construct of time. The present study examines time use and orientation and time attitudes toward different activities, including advertising in an emerging economy of Georgia. Study results indicate that present orientation and consciousness of future, planning orientation, time saving, realization of present in the light of past, and action orientation are salient factors channeling time orientations of Georgian consumers.  相似文献

This paper presents a symmetric analysis of the approaches used in the study of marketing practices in less-development countries, and develops another approach which has substantial promise. The proposed approach is composed of two stages. Traditionally, U.S. firms have successfully used American appeal (hard-sell approach) as a unique selling proposition in Europe, Japan and in the developing world. However, the anti-American sentiments around the world due to the Iraqi and Afghan wars and recent upheavals in the Middle East and North Africa have negatively influenced consumer judgments about American-labeled global brands in international markets during the last decade. Such consumer perceptions may lead to a favorable environment for new competitors to emerge in specific markets, and these products may take significant market share away from global U.S. brands.  相似文献
