Hawker centres as tourist attractions: The case of Singapore

Cooked food hawkers are a sometimes neglected part of the tourism and hospitality industries, yet can play a significant role as a visitor attraction which offers both inexpensive food and insights into the contemporary society and heritage of the destination. Hawking is ubiquitous in much of South East Asia where it is integral to the life of local residents and this includes Singapore, the focus of the paper which also comments on the relationship between food and tourism in general. The cooked food hawker sector in the city state is described and the results of a survey of tourists about their experiences of dining at hawker centres are presented. Responses appear favourable on the whole, but some concerns are identified. It seems that hawkers may have unrealised potential as an amenity for tourists, although widening their appeal and use is a challenging task compounded by the threat to the survival of hawker centres from urban development pressures.

政府机关事务的高绩效管理是维护政府高效有序运行的关键,更是实现政府职能、促进社会经济发展、维护社会稳定和提升政府公信力的重要保障。许多先发国家如美国、英国等对机关运行实行了价值化管理改革,以基金作为撬动政府机关运行资金的杠杆,达到了机关服务高效优质、规范有序、监督有效和战略明确的目标。中国机关事务运行正处于由传统的事务性实物管理向现代化的价值治理转变的关键期,借鉴英美等国的基金管理和运行经验对于中国建立机关运行普遍服务基金制度,提高政府效能,实现国家治理体系和治理能力现代化具有重要意义。     

浅谈税法课程改革的必要性以及存在的问题

针对目前税法课程教学效果不佳的现象,进行了税法教学改革尝试。通过对教学改革实践的分析与总结,归纳税法教学改革元素,建立基于项目导向、任务驱动的税法教学改革模型。我们基于办税员岗位,注重实践操作,并对其在教学实践中的运用效果进行评价。通过教学改革,激发学生学习税法的兴趣,应学生所求,教学生所需,利用多种资源,为学生创造良好的税法学习条件和环境,实现教与学的良性互动。     

Destination Image of Taiwan From the Perspective of Hong Kong Residents: Revisiting Structural Relationships Between Destination Image Attributes and Behavioral Intention

Destination image plays an important role in how tourists make their travel and purchase decisions. This study examines the perceived image of Taiwan as a travel destination from the perspective of Hong Kong residents. The Hong Kong outbound tourism market is important for Taiwan. Using a self-completed questionnaire, this research examines the destination image of Taiwan among 213 Hong Kong residents. The results indicate that affective image is a stronger predictor of travel intention than cognitive image. Affective image also plays a mediating role in the relationship between cognitive image and behavioral intention. Hence, affective image is an important intangible quality for today’s destinations.

新冠肺炎疫情爆发以来,世界各国的经济贸易相继受到了重创,而江西省南昌市机电行业的进出口却逆势增长,表现突出,增速持续居于全国各省市前列。通过分析江西省统计年鉴和南昌海关等数据,得出结论:南昌进出口逆势上扬的原因是复杂的,政府的正确有力措施、应对突发事件能力强的优秀进出口企业是促进南昌市机电行业进出口在新冠肺炎疫情期间逆势上扬的主要原因。     

How can new ventures command a price premium with innovations in emerging markets?

Successful financing is critical for new ventures' survival and future sustainable growth. With the unique institutional characteristics, it is especially difficult for new ventures in emerging economies to transform innovation capital into favorable investor responses (such as willingness-to-pay, WTP) during the process of initial public offerings (IPOs). Based on the patent records from a unique sample of Chinese firms, we demonstrate that new ventures can successfully leverage innovation for higher WTP in IPOs contingent on the existence of venture capital ownership and reputable underwriter endorsements. These financial intermediates can send inside-out and outside-in signals to market investors to reduce information asymmetry. Our study contributes to research on the valuation of innovations in IPOs. We also provide practical implications to managers and investors of new ventures. We provide implication to managers and investors of new ventures on how to increase the benefits from innovations, which fosters national economic growth and social welfare.     

Efficient estimation for error component seemingly unrelated nonparametric regression models

Multivariate panel data provides a unique opportunity in studying the joint evolution of multiple response variables over time. In this paper, we propose an error component seemingly unrelated nonparametric regression model to fit the multivariate panel data, which is more flexible than the traditional error component seemingly unrelated parametric regression. By applying the undersmoothing technique and taking both of the correlations within and among responses into account, we propose an efficient two-stage local polynomial estimation for the unknown functions. It is shown that the resulting estimators are asymptotically normal, and have the same biases as the standard local polynomial estimators, which are only based on the individual response, and smaller asymptotic variances. The performance of the proposed procedure is evaluated through a simulation study and a real data set.
