This paper deals with a special case of estimation with grouped data, where the dependent variable is only available for groups, whereas the endogenous regressor(s) is available at the individual level. By estimating the first stage using the available individual data, and then estimating the second stage at the aggregate level, it might be possible to gain efficiency relative to the OLS and 2SLS estimators that use only grouped data. We term this the mixed-2SLS estimator (M2SLS). The M2SLS estimator is consistent and asymptotically normal. We also provide a test of efficiency of M2SLS relative to OLS and “2SLS” estimators. 相似文献

Environmental experience can enhance the ideas of design students. Thus, this type of experience may interfere with the influence of design students’ cognitive style on creativity. The aim of this study was to examine the influence of environmental experience on the relationship between innovative cognitive style and industrial design students’ creative outcomes. The environmental experience was measured according to the total scores of the five components of sense, feel, think, act, and relate on the basis of Schmitt’s strategic experience modules. The cognitive styles were measured using Kirton’s adaption–innovation inventory, and creative works were assessed through the consensus assessment technique, which was employed by three experts. Through a field experiment and survey investigation, the analysis indicated that innovative cognitive style significantly and positively influenced creativity, but this only occurred when student was accompanied with a low degree of environmental experience (i.e., a student had a low score for environmental experience); as the student attained a high degree of environmental experience, the influence of innovative cognitive style on creativity became weakened. The experiential media suggested that the natural elements, cultural history, group travel, and narrator effectively diversified the experiences of the students and enhanced creative thinking. This paper suggests providing increased stimulation of environmental experience prior to instructing design students to engage in creative activity. Buying firms are increasingly looking to suppliers for technological innovations that enhance the competitive position of their new products. However, extant research provides limited guidance on how buying firms may gain access to suppliers' innovative technologies. To address this gap in the literature, we draw from social exchange theory to posit sequential relationships among buyer behaviors, preferred customer status, and supplier's willingness to share technological innovations. We test our assertions by applying structural equation modeling statistical analyses to survey response data from 233 sales personnel of production good suppliers in the U.S. automotive industry. Whereas our results show that two buyer behaviors – early supplier involvement and relational reliability – positively affect preferred customer status, a third behavior – share of sales – has no effect. In turn, we find that preferred customer status is positively associated with supplier's willingness to share new technology with the buyer. Further, our findings indicate that preferred customer status fully mediates the benefits exchanged within a buyer–supplier relationship. Hence, our study highlights why buyers seeking innovations should take care that their behavior is appropriate for managing suppliers' perceptions. Accordingly, our results provide specific guidance to buyers as to how they may increase their access to suppliers' new technologies. 相似文献

This paper examines the significance of the time path of a given productivity increase on growth and inequality. Whereas the time path impacts only the transitional paths of aggregate quantities, it has both transitional and permanent consequences for wealth and income distribution. Hence, the growth-inequality tradeoff generated by a given discrete increase in productivity contrasts sharply with that obtained when the same productivity increase occurs gradually. The latter can generate a Kuznets-type relationship between inequality and per-capita income. Our results suggest that economies with similar aggregate structural characteristics may have different outcomes for income and wealth inequality, depending on the nature of the productivity growth path. 相似文献

Technical change is generally characterized by a rate and biases, both evaluated for given producer prices. This paper examines
the potential discrepancy between this rate and the corresponding rate of consumer welfare change as measured by Allais distributable
surplus. We postulate a general equilibrium context with various market failures (taxes, quotas, imperfect competition, and
“poorly priced” commodities), and use comparative statics to express the rate of welfare change in terms of the rate and biases
of the technical change. An elementary simulation model of a taxed economy suggests that the rate of welfare change may differ
from the rate of technical change by as much as 50% under plausible circumstances. 相似文献

This study examines how ownership concentration and corporate debt impact corporate divestitures in China. Corporate divestitures
reduce the asset base of a company and the opportunity for expropriation by majority shareholders. In emerging economies,
weak legal institutions, combined with equity ownership concentration and high corporate debt, allow majority shareholders
to avoid such disciplines. Consequently, the relationship between these governance mechanisms and divestiture activity exhibits
a pattern that is different from that in developed economies. Using archival data collected from 1,210 Chinese listed companies
during 1999–2003, we found that ownership concentration by the largest shareholder depressed corporate divestitures both in
state-controlled and in non-state-controlled firms. The negative effect of corporate debt on divestitures only existed for
state-controlled firms. Our finding provides corroborating evidence for principal–principal conflicts in emerging economies.
It suggests that corporate strategy in these countries can be better explained by taking into account the unique agency problems
that are prevalent in these economies. 相似文献

We analyze how the market processes a signaling event by studying a sample of self-tender offers, events often viewed as signals
of firm value. By examining changes in the degree of informed trading, we find asymmetric information costs fall at announcement,
remain low throughout the event, and increase at offer expiration. By one month following expiration, informed trading returns
to a level not significantly different from that prior to the offer. Higher risk firms have significantly larger declines
in information asymmetry during the offer. Increases in information asymmetry persist one month following expiration for firms
