The simulation problem is one of the most commonly used formats in computer-assisted instruction (CAI). In medical education, a patient simulation problem is known as a patient management problem (PMP). A number of computerized PMP systems are currently available. However, to date, there is no record of PMP systems having been developed using artificial intelligence. This is noteworthy since artificial intelligence techniques could help in the generation of more effective and intelligent instructional systems.
This paper analyzes and evaluates existing instructional simulation software in clinical medicine in terms of effective educational design attributes. Components of effective PMP systems thus identified are incorporated into a computerized instructional system which uses artificial intelligence techniques for teaching problem-solving and diagnostic skills to undergraduate medical students. 相似文献
Previous studies of the driving times of shopping center patrons have not examined the effect of limited access highways.
This study analyzed the impact of interstate highways on the driving times of 204 shoppers at three medium-sized regional
shopping centers. Those shoppers indicating usage of interstate highways to reach their shopping destinations were significantly
more likely to incur travel times greater than fifteen and twenty minutes than those not using the available interstate roads.
In predicting the drawing power of these shopping centers, factors besides mass were found to be useful. These include square

Evolutionary algorithms are used widely in optimization studies on water distribution networks. The optimization algorithms use simulation models that analyse the networks under various operating conditions. The solution process typically involves cost minimization along with reliability constraints that ensure reasonably satisfactory performance under abnormal operating conditions also. Flow entropy has been employed previously as a surrogate reliability measure. While a body of work exists for a single operating condition under steady state conditions, the effectiveness of flow entropy for systems with multiple operating conditions has received very little attention. This paper describes a multi-objective genetic algorithm that maximizes the flow entropy under multiple operating conditions for any given network. The new methodology proposed is consistent with the maximum entropy formalism that requires active consideration of all the relevant information. Furthermore, an alternative but equivalent flow entropy model that emphasizes the relative uniformity of the nodal demands is described. The flow entropy of water distribution networks under multiple operating conditions is discussed with reference to the joint entropy of multiple probability spaces, which provides the theoretical foundation for the optimization methodology proposed. Besides the rationale, results are included that show that the most robust or failure-tolerant solutions are achieved by maximizing the sum of the entropies. 相似文献

The constructed complex of antifiltration components, consisting of a grout curtain, concrete-filled karst hollows, and local concrete crosscut walls corresponds to the difficult geologic conditions of the Chain-N'yan massif.

The adopted work organization, with construction of tunnels cutting across the entire karst mass, simultaneous rock grouting, and more precise determination of the geomorphology made it possible to considerably reduce the proposed volumes and costs of the antifiltration components of the Hoabinh hydraulic development.

The adopted scheme for providing a working face for the antifiltration measures at El. 133 m was the optimal. It opportunely permitted ensuring readiness of the high-head front for filling the reservoir to El. 112 m in November 1990, and to the NPL at El. 125 m in September 1991.

Unemployment has been identified as one of the main problems confronting South Africa. Recently, in order to improve rural infrastructure and create employment, several pilot projects of rural road construction have been initiated in South Africa. In such a context it is considered that attention should be drawn to a pilot project carried out some time ago in Botswana to examine the potential of labour‐intensive methods in the construction and maintenance of rural roads.
The main conclusion of the pilot project was that labour‐intensive methods were viable, although attention had to be paid to several critical factors. In 1982, following its evaluation of the pilot project, the Government of Botswana decided that over the next five years the technical and organisational methods developed during the pilot project should be replicated throughout Botswana.
After a brief survey of the background to the project, the paper summarises several important features of the pilot project and its main findings. The paper closes with some comments on the implications of this pilot project for those currently underway in South Africa. 相似文献
