Mesenteric actinomycosis

We report a case of abdominal actinomycosis demonstrated on computed tomography (CT) as an isolated mesenteric mass with radiating linear and nodular densities. The lesion mimicked a mesenteric tumor with desmoplastic reaction. The clinical and radiological features of this uncommon entity are reviewed.

Binomial option pricing with stochastic parameters: A beta distribution approach

This research extends the binomial option-pricing model of Cox, Ross, and Rubinstein (1979) and Rendleman and Barter (1979) to the case where the up and down percentage changes of stock prices are stochastic. Assuming stochastic parameters in the discrete-time binomial option pricing is analogous to assuming stochastic volatility in the continuous-time option pricing. By assuming that the up and down parameters are independent random variables following beta distributions, we are able to derive a closed-form solution to this stochastic discrete-time option pricing. We also derive an upper and a lower bounds of the option price.

Exchange rate alignment and producer support estimates (PSEs) for India

This article examines the effects of exchange rate alignment during 1985–2002 on agricultural producer support estimates (PSEs) for India. Based on several time series techniques, the equilibrium exchange rate of the Indian rupee and the corresponding misalignment of the actual rate are estimated and applied to recent PSE calculations. Our results show that the exchange rate was substantially misaligned before a financial crisis and macroeconomic reform in the early 1990s, with subsequent indirect effects on the PSEs. We find a relatively high pass‐through of exchange rate movements to domestic agricultural prices, so that removal of the exchange rate misalignment would have improved incentives to Indian farmers during this period. More recently, this indirect exchange rate effect is smaller than the direct effect in the PSEs, indicating the dominance of sectoral‐specific policies over economy‐wide policies.     

Demand for milk quantity and safety in urban China: evidence from Beijing and Harbin

Urban households account for most of the milk consumption in China, but their consumption is hampered by safety concerns. Using survey data collected in Beijing and Harbin in 2010, this paper simultaneously analyses urban households' milk consumption using a multiple linear model and their willingness‐to‐pay for milk safety using an ordered choice model. The results of this study show that as income increases, urban households consume more milk and are willing to pay a higher premium for milk safety. Modern food marketing channels play a positive role in stimulating milk consumption and building consumers' confidence in milk safety. The growth in the elderly population influences milk consumption positively, but their demand for milk safety is negatively affected by higher price. The combined analysis of households' demand for milk quantity and safety may be useful to the Chinese government in promoting the development of the domestic milk industry and to dairy firms in exploring the milk market in China.     

中国农产品出口:竞争优势与关键问题

现阶段中国农产品具有较大的出口潜力,主要体现为劳动密集型产品的低成本竞争优势。但目前还有一系列问题,如农产品质量卫生安全问题严重,农产品加工度低,技术创新薄弱,缺乏品牌产品,农产品行业组织发展滞后,农产品出口秩序和行业自律问题严重,农产品出口管理体制不顺,政府支持政策不够等,影响中国农产品出口竞争优势的发挥。
