This paper studies the willingness to pay (WTP) for forest property rights in Viet Nam. We do so by asking respondents to
estimate the value of two different forest property rights regimes where only the level of property security differs and all
other forest plot characteristics are constant. We use this information to identify the value of the property rights security.
Our results reveal that a significant number of individuals are willing to pay for an additional area of forestland but that
the amount offered appears to be inadequate to compensate sellers, as very few land market transactions actually take place.
The results further indicate that income relates positively to WTP, irrespective of forest property regime. Wealth, age, and
ethnicity also have an impact on the amount households are willing to pay. As expected, there was a significant mark-up on
the more secure right. Econometric estimates of the difference between the WTP for secure and insecure property rights show
that a higher level of female education, and household age decrease the difference between the two WTP measures while the
difference tends to increase as income improves. This has important policy implications, as it indicates that households tend
to evaluate the property rights institutions differently. 相似文献

The well-known willingness to pay–willingness to accept (WTP–WTA) gap refers to the observation that individuals attach a higher value to objects they own (WTA) than to objects they do not own (WTP). We report on experiments to re-investigate the possibility that the WTP–WTA gap arises from subject misconceptions due to experimental procedures as suggested by Plott and Zeiler (2005). The contribution of this paper is two-fold: first, we attempt to replicate the findings by Plott and Zeiler that the WTP–WTA gap disappears when using procedures that are aimed at reducing misconceptions, such as extensive training and practice rounds for the BDM mechanism. However, we fail to do so as the WTP–WTA gap persists in the main task where subjects state their WTA or WTP for a mug. Second, we use the paid practice rounds to identify subjects without apparent misconceptions and find that also for those subjects who never make dominated choices in the lottery tasks, the WTP–WTA gap in the mug task exists. Thus, we find no evidence of the idea that subject misconceptions are the main source of the WTP–WTA gap. 相似文献

Food product innovations are characterized by high flop rates. In an early development stage, manifold product formulations seem feasible. To determine the most promising product option, market research can help, but is frequently considered too costly and complex. We assess the applicability of the van Westendorp approach, an inexpensive and simple method, for guiding early product design and pricing decisions for novel foods. Findings from a between-subject experiment for meat substitutes consisting of different shares of micro-algae indicate that micro-algae, while a cost driver, has little effect on price preferences. Implications for novel food product design, market research, and retailing are discussed. 相似文献

This study uses truncated Poisson regression to correct endogeneity of discrete choice experiments (DCEs) with data from on-site sampling, which has been commonly used to collect samples in the field of tourism research. We find that goodness of fit of model is significantly improved with on-site sampling correction. Estimated parameters with onsite sampling correction also match the predictions of economic theory better. Estimated willingness to pay for attributes are substantially underestimated due to sample selection bias. These results question the use of DCEs without on-site sampling correction for tourism policy making. 相似文献

湖滨带农村常住居民支浜生态修复需求与支付意愿——以太湖竺山湾地区为例 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
提升居民参与水平,加快支浜生态修复是改善湖滨带缓冲功能和太湖水环境治理的重要需求。对太湖竺山湾地区204户农村常住居民的调查发现:1)感觉2014年支浜水质比2004年"非常差"或"非常好"的居民比例大幅降低,表明太湖湖滨带水质恶化得到初步控制但总体改善不明显;2)80.88%的湖滨带农村常住居民对支浜生态修复工程具有支付意愿,其中62.4%愿意一次性支付,户均支付意愿163元,27.9%愿意按年支付,户均支付意愿136元/年,9.7%愿意按月支付,户均支付意愿24元/月;3)Logistic分析表明,受教育水平对湖滨带农村常住居民支浜生态修复工程支付意愿具有显著正向影响;4)在经济相对发达的太湖流域,农村水环境治理社会基础较好,生态建设资金有保障、工程运行监管等政策设计中应重视并充分发挥当地常住居民的作用。 相似文献

Sensitivity (proportionality) of willingness to pay (WTP) to (small) risk changes is often used as a criterion to test for
valid measures of economic preferences. In a contingent valuation (CV) study conducted in Austria, 1,005 respondents were
asked their WTP for preventing an increase in the risk of being killed in an avalanche of 1/42,500 and 3/42,500 respectively.
WTP for the higher variation in risk is significantly greater than WTP for the lower risk change. We find evidence that those
respondents who have had personal experience of avalanches in recent years combine the information about future risk increase—as
provided in the survey—with the observed number of fatal avalanche accidents in the past. Proportionality of WTP holds if
such prior experience is taken into account and if attitudinal factors in scope tests are controlled for.

In response to dramatically increasing adoption in consumer markets, the National Organic Program (NOP) initiated novel labeling standards for food products in the US in 2002. This program is a particularly relevant standardization effort for multi-ingredient processed foods. Rather than a simple binary message (organic or not), gradations of organic content are now codified. No existing published study evaluates consumer willingness to pay or motivation to purchase in response to such a rich organic label. This article presents evidence of the impact of the NOP through analysis of data collected in seven central Ohio, USA grocery stores. Results suggest that consumers are willing to pay premium prices for organic foods, even those with less than 100% organic ingredients. The magnitudes of WTP premia varied significantly among consumer groups, suggesting that targeted marketing may be effective for organic merchandisers. 相似文献

Developing countries have high proportion of black money and related corruption in the society in comparison to the developed ones. This aspect has to be kept in mind while conducting contingent valuation method (CVM) questionnaire survey (in-person) at the site whose economic valuation is being done. Participant observation method (POM) and unstructured interview schedule (UIS) are the two means, which must be used in addition to structured interview schedule during CVM studies in developing countries to arrive at a reasonable non-market economic valuation figure of an environmental amenity. It has been observed that researchers generally ignore this fact during survey for primary data collection among respondents who are quite well off, educated and belong to countries of huge parallel economy. However in the present study, we have utilized these two means during primary data collection for a CVM study and reached the conclusion that CVM has to be used with caution even among educated masses in the developing countries. 相似文献
