A Research on Unemployment in China＇s Transition Economy

Based on the theory of rigid wage of Keynesianism, this paper discusses the influence of rigid wage on unemployment in China＇s transition economy, and thoroughly analyzes the traditional concept of workers in state-owned enterprises. Then the paper puts forward that in order to activate employment market, solve current problem of the large quantity surplus labor, supply-demand rule of labor market should be obeyed, and the rigid wage of long-term contract should be replaced by the flexible wage of short-term contract. The solution of unemployment will be of great significance for Chinese economy growth and social development.

目前,人类发展的概念正逐步取代了等同于经济增长的发展观。现有的公共支出水平,尤其是与人类发展密切相关的公共支出是否有效地促进中国人类发展水平,以及地区间公共支出水平的差异是否会对各地的人类发展产生不同的影响,成为我们需要解答的问题。本文研究表明,虽然就全国范围看,各类公共支出促进了中国人类发展指数及各分项指数的提高,但是,按经济发展水平分组的研究却显示,只有人均基建支出无一例外显著地促进了各地区的经济发展,其余指标表现出较大的地区差异。

Which Firms Buy Licenses? Market Positions and License Expenditures*

This paper presents the empirical results of a comparison of technology licensing expenditures of German companies in order to test implications of the Gilbert and Newbery (1982) model. Aside from standard control variables, the motives for innovation expenditures are also taken into account. We differentiate between firms intending to secure their present position in the market (incumbents) and those intending to enter a new market (challengers). In line with the prediction of the Gilbert and Newbery model, we find that incumbents show higher expenditures for technology licenses than potential entrants.

Senior Tourists in the Holy Land

Abstract

Senior travelers constitute a significant segment of Israel's inbound market. Based on secondary survey data, this study found that the inbound senior segment possessed distinguishable characteristics, making it an identifiable target for focused marketing efforts. Compared to those who were 55 or younger, the seniors were much more likely to be pilgrims, sightseers, or visiting relatives. A considerably larger percentage of them traveled with one companion, obtained information from a travel agency, and purchased a travel package. Further, they showed higher “brand loyalty,” spent more money, and were more satisfied with their visiting experience in Israel.
