Emerging Multinationals from Mid‐Range Economies: The Influence of Institutions and Factor Markets

This paper revisits and extends our earlier work (in 2005) in the pages of this journal. We argue that there is a need for more fine‐grained understanding of the country context along two dimensions: (1) institutional development and (2) infrastructure and factor market development. Specifically, we propose an enriched typology of emerging economies with a focus on mid‐range emerging economies, which are positioned between traditional emerging economies and newly developed economies. Then we examine new multinationals from these mid‐range emerging economies that have internationalized both regionally and globally. We outline directions for further research based on this typology in terms of (1) government influence, (2) resource orchestration, (3) market entry, and (4) corporate governance regarding the internationalization strategy of these emerging multinationals from mid‐range economies.     

Efficient modelling and forecasting with range based volatility models and its application

This paper considers an alternative method for fitting CARR models using the combined estimating functions (CEF) by showing its usefulness in applications in economics and quantitative finance. The associated information matrix for corresponding new estimates is derived to calculate the standard errors. Extensive simulation study is carried out to demonstrate its superiority relative to two other competitors: the linear estimating functions (LEF) and the maximum likelihood (ML). Results show that the CEF method is more efficient than the LEF and ML methods when the error distribution is mis-specified. Applying a real data set from financial market, we illustrate the applicability of the CEF method in practice and report some reliable forecast values for minimizing the risk in decision making process.

超宽带微功率冲激雷达接收机的优化及实现

为实现一种真正平衡的采样接收机,并解决以往接收机存在的采样模板脉冲泄漏问题,设计了一种新的平衡采样头。通过分析模板信号宽度对检测效率的影响,结合实际微功率冲激雷达(MIR)采样接收机所需考虑的事项,优化了模板信号的波形和宽度,并实际生成了平衡模板信号,最终实现了所提出的采样接收机。测量结果显示,在M IR系统低于120 mW功耗的前提下,可将其作用距离扩展至30 m。     

Arbitrage with Fractional Brownian Motion

Fractional Brownian motion has been suggested as a model for the movement of log share prices which would allow long–range dependence between returns on different days. While this is true, it also allows arbitrage opportunities, which we demonstrate both indirectly and by constructing such an arbitrage. Nonetheless, it is possible by looking at a process similar to the fractional Brownian motion to model long–range dependence of returns while avoiding arbitrage.     

Exploring Airbnb service quality attributes and their asymmetric effects on customer satisfaction

With the rise of the sharing economy, Airbnb has become the predominant example of the online peer-to-peer accommodation market in the hospitality industry. This study adopts a mixed method approach to systematically and comprehensively capture various service aspects of Airbnb. Two main studies are conducted to identify key service quality (SQ) attributes of Airbnb, verify the dimensionality of the SQ attributes, and examine the effects of these attributes on customer satisfaction (CS). The first qualitative study generated a list of SQ attributes by collecting and analyzing 16,430 online reviews. In the second study, online survey (N = 322) is conducted to identify multiple dimensions of SQ attributes and examine their asymmetric effects on CS using impact-range performance analysis and impact asymmetry analysis. Findings suggest that Airbnb has multiple SQ attributes associated with website, host, and facility that produce distinctive effects on CS.

FAST MONTE CARLO GREEKS FOR FINANCIAL PRODUCTS WITH DISCONTINUOUS PAY‐OFFS

We introduce a new class of numerical schemes for discretizing processes driven by Brownian motions. These allow the rapid computation of sensitivities of discontinuous integrals using pathwise methods even when the underlying densities postdiscretization are singular. The two new methods presented in this paper allow Greeks for financial products with trigger features to be computed in the LIBOR market model with similar speed to that obtained by using the adjoint method for continuous pay‐offs. The methods are generic with the main constraint being that the discontinuities at each step must be determined by a one‐dimensional function: the proxy constraint. They are also generic with the sole interaction between the integrand and the scheme being the specification of this constraint.
