Computer networking among executives: A case study

Group Support Systems may be “distributed”; for nonsimultaneous use by being embedded in a Computer‐Mediated Communication System (CMCS). In this manner, large groups may use them for complex tasks over an extended period of time. Will executives use such systems, and what are their reactions? This case study of elites engaged in formulating recommendations for the White House Conference on Productivity demonstrates that executives can use such systems, given that “critical success factors”; are met. Perceived information richness is strongly correlated with perceptions of productivity enhancement as a result of system use.     

GMO standards,endogenous policy and the market for information

The paper develops a composite index of GMO standards restrictiveness for 60 countries, assigning objective scores to six different regulatory dimensions. Using this index and its components, we empirically investigate the political and economic determinants of GMO regulations for 55 countries, controlling for spatial autocorrelation. Results show that many of the determinants highlighted in the theoretical literature, such as the structure of the agricultural sector and the institutional environment are important determinants of the restrictiveness of the GMO regulation. As a key result there emerges a prominent role of the market for information, showing that the structure of domestic mass media (public vs. private) is an important driver of GMO standards.     

Poor Kids: A Report on Children in Poverty

Media coverage of income inequality and the economic plight of the middle class fails to analyze the long-term effects of growing inequality and to consider possible solutions. The article examines the literature on media coverage of income inequality and the middle class, and then examines how three competing models, the neoclassical economic model, the propaganda model, and the institutionalist model, explain the inadequate coverage of the effects and solutions.

在纪念改革开放三十年的今天，大陆新闻媒介应该如何发展仍然是一个富有争议的问题。本文通过对过去二十多年大陆新闻媒介“市场化”研究的评析；通过重新认识最早“市场化”经营的媒体广告在媒体发展中的地位与作用；通过对所谓媒介“市场化”问题的批判的评析，澄清人们对新闻媒介“市场化”发展认识上的一些谬误和误解。     

Billboard and cinema advertising: Missed opportunity or spoiled arms?

Advertising remains one of the most popular marketing instruments, and many studies have studied its sales effectiveness. However, prior research has either looked at the total spending of a brand/firm, or has focused on the most popular media, especially TV advertising. Even though huge amounts are also spent on “smaller” media such as billboards and cinema, little is known on their effectiveness.

本文结合当前形势,在分析县域发展文化产业的重要意义和基础条件后,提出尝试从内部培育领军企业,通过整合县内文化产业资源,撤并县新闻中心和广电台,并进行企业化转制,新建县级文化传媒集团,抱团推进县域文化产业繁荣发展,并对组建工作提出了具体建议。     

信息共享媒介与主体间协作的相互影响研究

经济学大量研究了主体间信息不对称与信息共享对主体间协作效率的影响而缺乏对信息共享可行性自身的研究，本文针对主体间信息共享所依赖媒介（本文称之为编码系统）的具体特征，以及怎样的环境可以促进主体间形成更有效的信息共享手段问题进行了探讨。研究表明，有限理性主体赖以实现信息共享与协作的编码系统将影响主体间信息传递，不同的信息共享媒介会导致不同的信息传递效率与协作效率；当持有不同信息共享媒介的主体间进行协作时，主体所处分工协作的具体场景特征将影响主体间能否达成的有效的信息共享媒介并最终影响主体间协作效率。
