The market microstructure of the European climate exchange

This paper analyzes the market microstructure of the European Climate Exchange, the largest EU ETS trading venue. The ECX captures 2/3 of the screen traded market in EUA and more than 90% in CER. Volume growth has averaged 277% in EUA between 2005 and 2009 and 724% in CER since 2007. Spreads range from €0.0188 to €0.0406 for EUA and €0.0276 to €0.0796 for CER. The median proportion of the spread due to adverse selection reaches 76% for EUA and 75% for CER. Realized volatility, bid-ask spreads and adverse selection costs decline with verified emission releases. Market impact estimates imply that an average trade will move the EUA market by 1.06 euro centimes and the CER market 1.45. The ECX is providing between 75% and 88% of price discovery for EUA trading and between 64% and 72% for CER. We find imbalances in the order book help predict returns for up to three days. A simple trading strategy that enters the market long or short when the order imbalance is strong is profitable even after accounting for spreads and market impact.

Impatience implication of weakly Paretian orders: Existence and genericity

We study order theoretic and topological implications for impatience of weakly Paretian, representable orders on infinite utility streams. As a departure from the traditional literature, we do not make any continuity assumptions in proving the existence of impatient points. Impatience is robust in the sense that there are uncountably many impatient points. A general statement about genericity of impatience cannot be made for representable, weakly Paretian orders. This is shown by means of an example. If we assume a stronger sensitivity condition, then genericity obtains.

中国上市公司资本结构的选择——基于两种主要理论的检验

本文使用中国的数据对西方理论界解释企业资本结构选择的两个主要理论——平衡理论和优序理论进行检验。我们发现：无论是平衡理论还是优序理论都不能单独地解释中国企业资本结构的选择。中国企业向目标资本结构调整的速度比较慢，不足以说明企业有一个明确的资本结构偏好并向之不断调整。同时，中国企业未表现出与优序理论预期的在外源融资方面先债务后股权的顺序．股权融资在企业的外源融资中占有很大比例。由于我国资本市场尤其是企业债券市场发展还不太成熟．企业的法人治理结构与外国不尽相同，因此影响企业资本结构选择的因素跟外国成熟市场相比存在较大的差异。本文研究结果表明中国上市公司的资本结构反映的可能是经营者在特定财务状况下的相机选择．同时在很大程度上又是诸多外界制约因素共同作用的结果。

Order book approach to price impact

Buying and selling stocks causes price changes, which are described by the price impact function. To explain the shape of this function, we study the Island ECN orderbook. In addition to transaction data, the orderbook contains information about potential supply and demand for a stock. The virtual price impact calculated from this information is four times stronger than the actual one and explains it only partially. However, we find a strong anticorrelation between price changes and order flow, which strongly reduces the virtual price impact and provides for an explanation of the empirical price impact function.     

On the System Setup and the Scheduling Problem in a Flexible Manufacturing System (FMS)

In this paper we present a model which unifies several existing models with respect to two phases of the planning process of a Flexible Manufacturing System. These phases are the system setup phase and the scheduling phase and in literature they usually are considered separately. We give a mathematical formulation encompassing both phases. From this formulation several existing approaches can be deduced. We also describe some heuristic methods for our model and present the computational results.
