There is currently a general agreement about the importance of training as a tool to help companies in the development of sustainable competitive advantages based on their human resources. Staff qualification is not an option in the tourism industry; human capital training actually becomes a determining factor to be able to achieve a differential positioning within the sector. In Spain, where the tourism sector is a strategic element, it becomes essential to analyse the training policy applied by tourism enterprises with the aim of assessing its quality and effectiveness. The objective sought in this study is to identify the main factors related to training policy that have an impact on performance. The study carries out an empirical research into the effects that training practices cause on performance levels in the Spanish hotel industry using a sample of 110 hotels. 相似文献

A questionnaire measuring attitude towards four categories of food chemicals (colourings, flavourings, pesticides and fertilizers), level of concern for the environment, dietary habits and reasons for food choice was administered to 932 high school students aged 12-15 years during regular classroom periods. Students also indicated whether they could recall classroom teaching on 15 food and health related issues. Scores were derived representing self-reported frequency of eating (a) foods that were high in fat, or (b) fresh fruits and vegetables. Along with a measure of environmental concern, these were entered as covariates in the analysis of attitudes towards the different classes of additives. Age and gender had little effect on these attitudes. However, more positive attitudes towards both colourings and flavourings were associated with more frequent consumption of 'fat' foods and less frequent consumption of 'fresh' foods. Those with higher 'fat' diets also evaluated the use of pesticides more positively, whereas those expressing greater environmental concern were more opposed to flavourings, fertilizers and (marginally) pesticides. With regard to reasons for food choice, those with higher 'fat' and lower 'fresh' diets appeared to place more weight on pleasure than on nutritional information, whereas those higher on environmental concern paid more attention to labelling and food value. Older students were more able to choose their own diet, but attended less to the health value of the foods they chose, and expressed less trust in food labelling and government control. These findings suggest that judgements of risk are guided by evaluative associations, derived partly from more general attitudes and previous behaviour. 相似文献

Although human resource (HR) systems in the form of bundles of HR practices and their impact on organizational performance have attracted considerable attention, the role that business strategy could play in this relationship remains uncertain, particularly in service industries. In order to avoid any confounding effects, this study analyzes the performance impact of adopting different HR systems in an empirical setting in which employees are vital if the company is to remain competitive, the firms belong to the same industry and the primary activities involved are the delivery of services to customers. Based on survey data from 86 banking institutions in Spain, three HR systems were identified, two of which rendered better organizational performance when matched to defender strategies, thus supporting a contingency explanation of the adoption of HR systems. Findings showed that even in an industry under strong universalistic pressures to adopt certain predictable HR practices, matching HR systems with a business strategy pays off. 相似文献

14(1), 3–39, 2005), which is usually justified by reference to several theoretical constructs, such as the legitimacy, stakeholder,
and agency theories. Our findings evidence that firms with higher CSR ratings present a statistically significant larger size
and a higher media exposure, and belong to more environmentally sensitive industries, as compared to firms with lower CSR
ratings. However, neither profitability nor leverage seem to explain differences in CSR disclosure practices between Spanish
listed firms. The most influential variable for explaining firms’ variation in CSR ratings is media exposure, followed by
size and industry. Therefore, it seems that the legitimacy theory, as captured by those variables related to public or social
visibility, is the most relevant theory for explaining CSR disclosure practices of Spanish listed firms. 相似文献

This article focuses on the analysis of the reported differentials of job satisfaction for disabled and non-disabled individuals.
Using the Spanish data of the European Community Household Panel during the period 1995–2001, we estimate a job satisfaction
equation for each group and evaluate job satisfaction differentials through the Oaxaca-Blinder methodology. The results show
that disabled individuals are more likely to be more satisfied in their jobs than non-disabled ones, but only after controlling
for other variables. Oaxaca-Blinder decomposition shows the greater importance of the returns in job satisfaction for disabled
people, which is supported by explanations based on the lower expectations about jobs of disadvantaged groups.

This paper aims to assist in a better understanding of the real role of patents by examining how Crossley Brothers – the world's main producer of gas engines before the First World War – and its partners (as well as the German inventor Nikolaus Otto) used the patent system to introduce the gas engine into Spain. The evidence suggests that patents were for them mainly an instrument to protect the market for their imported products. It is probable that the know-how transferred to the local agents and the engines imported could somehow enhance the domestic industrial abilities, but the supposed aim of the patent system – creating a local industry – was not achieved. Although the Spanish patent system was not well implemented, this was not the main explanation of this failure; rather it was the weak domestic technological abilities. 相似文献

Motivation and satisfaction are two concepts widely studied in tourism literature; the relevance of these constructs being derived from their impact on tourist behaviour. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the relationship between motivation and visitor satisfaction. A survey questionnaire was distributed to visitors at a rural destination in Spain and the data analysed by ANOVA, factor and cluster analyses. The results verified our hypothesis that motivation is a determinant of the visit assessment criteria and, as a direct consequence, of the level of satisfaction (specific factors) of the visitor. However, this investigation also detected the existence of certain elements, which are independent of the reasons that motivated the journey (general factors), but which affect general satisfaction. The identification and treatment of protest responses in stated preference surveys has long been subject to debate. We analyse protest responses while investigating ecosystem services providers’ preferences for incentive‐based schemes. We use a choice experiment for olive farmers’ preferences for agri‐environmental scheme participation in southern Spain. Our two main objectives are: first, to identify and discuss a range of possible motives for protest responses that emerge in a WTA context; second, we analyse the impact on WTA estimates of censoring serial non‐participation linked to protest or high compensation requirements (very high takers). Using a random parameter logit model in WTA space, we find that the inclusion or exclusion of serial non‐participants in the analysis can have a significant impact on marginal and total WTA estimates. Based on the findings, the paper makes recommendations on how to reduce the incidence of protest responses through survey design, regarding the identification of protesters as opposed to very high takers, and regarding the treatment of both groups of respondents for WTA estimation. 相似文献
