The main goal of the study is to determine which socio-economic factors affect level of participation in the community forest management of “Ludhi-Damgade” of Gorkha district in Nepal. The empirical evidence for level of participation as a function of social status is obtained by using an ordered probit and two-stage least-squares model. The model also estimates the marginal effects of socio-economic factors on different levels of participation suggesting how per unit change in such socio-economic characters affects the level of participation. Empirical results from the model also verify that participation in forest management determines the quantity and type of benefits received from the community forest. The research findings of the study suggest that participation in community forest management is based on the socio-economic profile of an individual and the level of participation is determined by the benefits obtained from the common forest resources. Lack of participation in community forest management excludes the disadvantaged groups from decision-making in product distribution. Consequently, the disadvantaged groups get less benefit from the community forest. The empirical results are expected to aid policy makers in empowering people of lower socio-economic status to understand the importance of participation in community forest management in order to have equal distribution of benefits accrued by community forest.  相似文献

Radio Frequency Identification Technology's (RFID) application in the global supply chain has seen increased attention, and international distribution centers (IDC) are now playing a more crucial role in the global supply chain operation. This paper adopts structure equation modeling (SEM) to investigate the impact of three factors mainly based on the technology acceptance model (TAM): perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, and the social norm on the use intention of an IDC. Empirical results indicate that a revised TAM could explain the RFID acceptance behavior. Perceived ease of use, perceived usefulness, and the social norm are demonstrated to have an effect on RFID acceptance intention. The choice of RFID adoption is also impacted by the supply chain's stakeholders. Factors that affect the adoption intention of an IDC thus include customers and partners' request, government policy, and competitors that have already adopted RFID. Furthermore, the study adopts the binary Logit model based on the stated preference method's data to predict the possible adoption rate of the RFID system in the adoption intention of an IDC. This empirical study shows that significant statistical determinants influencing RFID acceptance are: system purchasing fixed cost, variable cost, and perceived usefulness. Our model also predicts that the penetration of RFID application in Taiwan's international distribution centers could hit the 25% adoption rate. The study provides several managerial implications and suggests future research directions.  相似文献

While research on user innovations within communities exists mainly in offline contexts, few studies have attempted to define the profile of lead users in online (or virtual) communities, and even fewer have been conducted in the specific context of online brand communities, formed by people with a “common interest in a brand,” in its evolution and in the discourse about it. This study focuses on innovative activities within the Ducati Motor online community. The research reveals the following characteristics as crucial factors for the identification of lead users in online brand communities: willingness to collaborate, product knowledge and strategic alignment with the brand identity. Our sample consists of 2071 messages posted by 572 Ducati Motor virtual community members in a specific blog developed by Ducati Motor with the purpose of involving members in a collaborative innovation process that took nearly 14 months. Several implications for scholars and new product development managers are discussed.  相似文献

Integrating social demands into landscape management has been proven difficult because of a lack of suitable measures. In order to address this issue this article describes the development of the Index of Function Suitability (IFS). This offers an integrated conceptual tool for incorporating social demands into landscape management. The IFS links preferences to land cover spatial patterns as it uses quantitative indicators for gauging differences between the preferred landscape patterns by users, for a certain activity related to an amenity function (e.g. hunting), and the land cover patterns of a given rural area (either at the present or from scenarios developed for the future). Introducing the measurement of the difference between the preferred spatial patterns and the landscape patterns occurring in a given landscape is a fundamental conceptual development represented in the IFS. By using the same set of indicators to quantify different land cover patterns, the IFS gauges quantitatively the differences between their spatial patterns, thus providing landscape managers with an indication of the suitability of changing land covers to support the selected amenity functions. In this paper, the conceptual aspects, as well as the methodological steps of the IFS were explained and further applied to one empirical case study in the Alentejo region of Portugal. This paper also examines both the strengths and weaknesses of the IFS approach along with a discussion for improvement.  相似文献

We develop a Bayesian random compressed multivariate heterogeneous autoregressive (BRC-MHAR) model to forecast the realized covariance matrices of stock returns. The proposed model randomly compresses the predictors and reduces the number of parameters. We also construct several competing multivariate volatility models with the alternative shrinkage methods to compress the parameter’s dimensions. We compare the forecast performances of the proposed models with the competing models based on both statistical and economic evaluations. The results of statistical evaluation suggest that the BRC-MHAR models have the better forecast precision than the competing models for the short-term horizon. The results of economic evaluation suggest that the BRC-MHAR models are superior to the competing models in terms of the average return, the Shape ratio and the economic value.  相似文献

Skin tone is a known influencer of earnings and social status. Its role in marketing has been primarily studied within the context of advertising while focusing on differences between Whites and Blacks. Three experiments were conducted to determine the effect of skin tone on customer evaluations of Black, Hispanic, and White males and females across two industries. In Studies 1 and 2, the Hispanic male was deemed less competent, professional, and worthy of repatronage compared to other service providers. In Study 3, the Hispanic male received higher evaluations when portrayed with a darker skin tone than lighter skin tone. Skin tone identity, ethnic identity, and colorism are found to influence the observed relationship. The research demonstrates that ethnicity matters, gender matters, and skin tone matters when evaluating service providers.  相似文献

High-quality reviews are crucial for users and websites. Many online travel agencies (OTAs) offer online incentives to encourage high-quality reviews. However, the effect of these incentive programs on users' posting effort remains unclear. Our analyses of a dataset collected from a leading OTA present the following: (1) users with more digest reviews tend to exert more effort when posting subsequent reviews; (2) an increasing number of digest reviews for a hotel induces subsequent users to exert additional posting effort; (3) the marginal effect of an additional digest review on posting effort is decreasing; (4) users with high expertise tend to exert extra posting effort when in a fierce competition. This study concludes by presenting theoretical and managerial implications for both research and practice.  相似文献

When the European Air Traffic Management Network (EATMN) approaches its capacity limits at certain airports, generating increasingly costly delays to flights and for passengers, reducing the impacts on airlines and passengers will be essential. There are two ways to address such increases in delay and costs. One is to strive to augment the capacity to reduce both delays and costs. The other one, adopted in this paper, is to reduce the impact of the delay on airlines and passengers.The User Driven Prioritisation Process (UDPP) provides airlines with additional flexibility in planning within constrained situations where delays are allocated, beyond the current slot swapping process already implemented by the EUROCONTROL Network Manager (NM).The paper presents recent validation results. It summarizes earlier results in a simplified EATMN with one constraint and several AUs showing that UDPP could reduce the impact of that delays on AUs' direct operational costs by 58% on average, and improves passengers’ connections. The paper then describes a parallel validation activity including several trials with SWISS. It focuses on the most recent validation results in a pre-operational environment close to SWISS Operations Control Centre (OCC). The results revealed overall operational benefit up to 65% improvement for the airline; and an initial impact assessment on the EATMN -although limited to one UDPP in the EATMN and one airline using it- shows promising results for the on-going integration closer to operations.While limited due to the simplified network context, these results are encouraging to undertake more complete network impact studies as well as to move forward to environments that are more realistic, bridging towards deployment.  相似文献
