The Dynamics of Embedded Rules: How Do Rule Networks Affect Knowledge Uptake of Rules in Healthcare?
Rules – in organizations and elsewhere – often become connected to other rules pertinent to similar or related action, and often they form rule networks that structure entire organizations and jurisdictions. Although rule networks are a common phenomenon, their effects on rule change have found little attention so far. How do rules change when they become embedded in rule networks? We build on prior conceptions of performance programs, organizational learning, and organizational knowledge to explore how rule network characteristics affect different types of knowledge uptake revisions of rules. Our analysis is quantitative and longitudinal and draws on archival data of clinical practice guidelines in a Canadian regional healthcare organization. Our findings indicate that the inbound networks of guidelines significantly affect their revisions. Our study suggests that rule networks shape the speed and direction of knowledge uptake of rules. Rules are dynamic, and their elaboration is path dependent and network dependent. 相似文献

Unlike univariate and bivariate statistical methods, multivariate statistical methods are capable of analyzing more than one relationship at a time. There are a number of multivariate data analysis methods, each with its own purpose. For nonexperts in statistical analysis, it can be daunting to determine what method is appropriate for a given application. The goal of this commentary is to introduce the multivariate data analysis methods in practical terms that do not require a strong statistical background. The emphasis is describing the purpose of each method, so that readers can choose the methods appropriate for their research questions. This paper treats the Water Ecological Civilisation City Pilot (WECCP) policy as a quasi-natural experiment, and integrates environmental regulation, pollution reduction and green innovation into a unified analytical framework. Based on the pollution emission index and green patent data for 283 Chinese cities from 2010 to 2018, we examine the impact of WECCP policy on urban pollution emissions and green innovation by using a difference-in-differences model. The results show that the WECCP policy has significant regional pollution reduction effects, that is, the policy significantly reduces water pollution in the pilot cities, while it has a weak impact on air quality improvement. Also, we find that the WECCP policy significantly promotes the growth of the number of green patent applications in the pilot cities, indicating that the policy can significantly improve urban green innovation capacity. The mediating effect analysis shows that the WECCP policy can improve regional environmental quality by enhancing urban green innovation ability. Furthermore, the heterogeneity analysis demonstrates that the WECCP policy has more significant effects on pollution reduction and green innovation in small cities. 相似文献

Despite the acknowledgement of the significance of income, affordability and cultural factors in using mobile phones research, there are few studies on how these factors affect females' use of mobile technology. Hence, this paper aims to expand knowledge on female consumers' use of mobile phones and mobile applications in developing countries. It develops a model based on combining the extended unified theory of acceptance and use of technology and the cultural influence model. Multi-stage cluster sampling was used to distribute hard copy questionnaires in Jordanian, Iraqi and UAE households led to 629 replies from female consumers. The results indicated that although income is an important factor, cost is not the highest barrier for females. Culture, society, national IT development and inclusive policies play a key role. This study contributes to existing literature by proposing a new integrated model acknowledging the role of income for females’ use of mobile phones. 相似文献

Although there have been studies concerning information and communication technologies adoption in the tourism industry, the research trends of mobile tourism (m-tourism) are still not very clear due to the short development time and emerging nature of the technologies. To fill this gap, this study reviewed and analyzed articles related to online reviews of tourism and hospitality published in academic journals between 2002 and 2015. Through a keyword-driven search and content analysis, 92 articles are identified as relevant and classified into three topics. Our findings contribute to a better understanding of this promising research direction by presenting the interesting classification methods used by relevant publications and their insights. Our previous attempt resulted in a paper by the same five authors, “Quantum information and accounting information: their salient features and conceptual applications,” published in the July–August 2006 issue of the Journal of Accounting and Public Policy. We now extend the previous paper to examine topological quantum computation, a remarkably innovative approach to decoherence and imprecise quantum computation. In this approach, exotic topological states are created for a natural medium to store and manipulate quantum information globally throughout the entire system. The process is intrinsically protected against imprecision and decoherence. We also explore conceptual, if not technical, applications of topological quantum computation to accounting. This is done by introducing topology’s inherent emphasis of qualitative characteristics to traditional accounting which has been dominated by quantitative characteristics. Here, financial statements’ monetary amounts may be contrasted to internal controls’ error frequencies. Part I of the paper deals with applications of topology to quantum information, after a brief introduction to basic tools. In particular the use of Fibonacci anyon and its powerful results are explained. Part II deals with applications of topology to accounting information. Urban flooding, frequently occurring in metropolitan areas, is one of the largest disasters worldwide. Albeit a large number of approaches and Enterprise Information Systems (EISs) have been designed for urban flood control, the ineffective management of physical assets has greatly impeded their deployment. Managing diverse physical assets is critical in urban flood control. Challenges exist in sharing assets and services between agencies, and ensuring real-time and flexible decision supports. This paper proposes a cloud-based asset management platform. Cloud technology is adopted for processing the huge amount of data collected by various physical assets and for providing flexible access interfaces. Service-oriented methods are applied to facilitate the sharing of assets and services and to enable the development of flexible and scalable Decision Support Systems (DSSs). Moreover, the concept of smart asset is introduced for remote real-time data collection, and the corresponding software agent model is developed to wrap these diverse assets, realising the UPnP (Universal Plug and Play) working mode. Finally, a case study on the urban flood control process of Guangqumen Bridge in Beijing is provided to illustrate the asset management processes of the proposed platform. 相似文献

Most asset prices are subject to significant volatility. The arrival of new information is viewed as the main source of volatility. As new information is continually released, financial asset prices exhibit volatility persistence, which affects financial risk analysis and risk management strategies. This paper proposes a nonlinear regime-switching threshold generalized autoregressive conditional heteroskedasticity model which can be used to analyse financial data. The empirical results based on quasi-maximum likelihood estimation presented in this paper suggest that the proposed model is capable of extracting information about the sources of volatility persistence in the presence of the leverage effect. 相似文献
