The purpose of this action research study is to learn directly from undergraduate students, through focus groups, about their experiences in their first accounting class, especially about the students’ knowledge and practice of critical thinking and about which classroom experiences engaged their attention and enhanced learning. The findings show that students want to understand how the first accounting course connects to the business world and to their other classes. Participants were unsure about when and how they practiced critical thinking; for improved learning outcomes, instructors need to keep critical thinking front and center. Students also need instruction in how to study accounting and how to utilize effectively the resources provided in their textbooks and as supplemental tools (e.g. integrated accounting software). Accounting professors must adapt their teaching methods to help students to meet professional demands, such as critical thinking skills and ability to handle a complex global business environment. 相似文献

ABSTRACT This article is a case study examining the process and products of THEME (Tourism Higher Education for Moldova with the EU), a curriculum development and innovation project. The project is part of the EU's Tempus Tacis plan to stimulate institutional modernisation and economic diversity in the NIS (Newly Independent State) region. A method for curriculum design and development is elaborated based on strategic management techniques. Specifically, three aspects of situational analysis are utilised. These are needs analysis, capability analysis and force field analysis. A curriculum, with supporting measures, is developed and presented based on the findings of this analysis. Finally a critical evaluation of the process and product finds conflict with opposing views providing different stories of success and failure for the project. 相似文献

Recently, information technology service management (ITSM) has emerged as a challenging research area. ITSM implementation often involves huge investment with unexpected risks. Therefore, understanding the preparedness of critical success factors (CSFs) and its effect on the organizational performance can help in not only reducing the risks but in also providing helpful guidance for enterprises. This empirical study explores the preparedness of ITSM-relevant CSFs and its effect on the organizational performance. The findings show that (1) the more important a CSF is, the more prepared the CSF is; (2) the organizational performance is mostly beneficial from customer and internal business process perspectives; and (3) only a few CSFs can significantly affect the organizational performance. Finally, the implications based on the findings are given for the management of ITSM implementation. 相似文献
