Why Do Foreign-Owned Firms Pay More? The Role of On-the-Job Training

While foreign-owned firms have consistently been found to pay higher wages than domestic firms to what appear to be equally productive workers, the causes of this remain unresolved. In a two-period bargaining framework we show that if training is more productive and specific in foreign firms, foreign firm workers will have a steeper wage profile and thus acquire a premium over time. Using a rich employer-employee matched data set we verify that the foreign wage premium is only acquired by workers over time spent in the firm and only by those that receive on-the-job training, thus providing empirical support for a firm-specific human capital acquisition explanation. 服务型企业"走出去"模式的服务贸易发展策略

服务型企业“走出去”模式选择是我国服务业国际化战略的核心组成部分。从分析我国服务型企业“走出去”的动因入手,构建了一个服务型企业“走出去”模式决策的理论分析模型,对如何选择适合中国服务型企业“走出去”模式进行了初步探讨。并通过分析得出,近几年来,服务外包、跨国公司业务离岸化、服务企业对外直接投资等服务业国际转移方式的迅猛发展使得服务企业成为推动服务贸易发展的关键要素和内在动力。     

商务模型与民营企业绩效

目前，国内关于影响企业绩效因素的研究大多选取局部分析方法，难以得出整体性结论。新兴的商务模型理论为全面分析影响企业绩效的因素提供了理论架构。本文首次运用该理论对民营企业绩效开展了计量研究。结果提示，提高民营企业绩效可以从多侧面的商务模型改良入手，这也初步验证了商务模型方法的有效性。     

Technical Change in the Private Consumption Converter

The analysis of technological change is centered on the study of the evolution of technical coefficients in the input–output table. Complementary to this analysis, the household consumption expenditure matrix, relating consumption by commodities to consumption by purpose or by function, also incorporates some other aspects of technological change. Thus, the evolution in time of the coefficients of this consumption expenditure matrix will portray technological processes, implying substitutions between commodities to satisfy the different functions The substitution between consumption expenditure by functions is also to be taken into consideration, because it can influence, together with technological change, the use of commodities in the final demand. For Switzerland, a 1980–89 time series of household consumption expenditure matrices with 37 commodities and 58 functional consumption categories has been estimated using data from consumer expenditure surveys. In this paper, instruments generally applied to the analysis of changes in input–output technical coefficients are extended to these matrices, including methods that deal with biproportional processes of substitution.     

Tourism and economic regeneration: the role of skills development

An increasing number of local economic development agencies in the UK are turning to tourism as a means of urban regeneration and employment creation. Although initiatives vary, there is a nationally inspired emphasis on the development of employee skills as a core element of many regeneration strategies. This paper reports the findings of a qualitative study of the demand for and utilisation of skills by tourism firms in East London, an area that is the recipient of substantial urban aid funding, a proportion of which has an overt focus on skills enhancement designed to develop the tourism sector. It then examines the processes of skills supply within the locality. The paper concludes by identifying the key issues likely to be important if regeneration programmes are to be effective. Closure and divestiture by foreign entrants: the impact of entry and post‐entry strategies

We analyze the longevity of foreign entrants explicitly considering two possible ways of exit: firm closure and capital divestiture. We find that entry and post‐entry strategies affect the longevity of firms and of foreign equity holdings, but in different manners. While the ownership arrangements and organizational structure affect the likelihood of divestment, they exert no significant effect upon closure. The entry mode exerts opposite effects on the two modes of exit, greenfield entrants being more likely to shutdown, but less likely to be divested. Only human capital affects closure and divestment in the same manner. Firms with large endowments of human capital are less likely to exit, irrespective of the exit mode considered. 媒体治理对注册会计师收费的影响机理研究

受众并非被动地接纳媒体信息,而是依据情况分析和利用媒体信息,重构自我认知。显然,作为媒体信息使用者的审计师,其认知重构必然会受到媒体的影响。本文基于2005－2010年A股上市公司数据,从事务所声誉、公司治理和产权性质三个视角,研究了审计师利用媒体的约束机制。研究发现：十大事务所对媒体报道反应更加强烈,从而提出更高的收费溢价;媒体关注会弱化股权制衡的审计收费溢价效应;审计师对国有企业的媒体关注提出更高风险溢价。研究结果表明,媒体通过外部审计机制发挥了治理效应,且该效应受到事务所声誉、股权制衡和企业产权性质的影响。
