Revisiting the Miles and Snow strategic framework: uncovering interrelationships between strategic types,capabilities, environmental uncertainty,and firm performance

The Miles and Snow strategic type framework is re‐examined with respect to interrelationships with several theoretically relevant batteries of variables, including SBU strategic capabilities, environmental uncertainty, and performance. A newly developed constrained, multi‐objective, classification methodology is modified to empirically derive an alternative quantitative typology using survey data obtained from 709 firms in three countries (China, Japan, United States). We compare the Miles and Snow typology to the classification empirically derived utilizing this combinatorial optimization clustering procedure. With respect to both variable battery associations and objective statistical criteria, we show that the empirically derived solution clearly dominates the traditional P‐A‐D‐R typology of Miles and Snow. Can Foreigners Improve the Profitability of Emerging Market Banks? Evidence from the Vietnamese Strategic Partner Program

Foreign ownership and foreign management are often assumed to improve the efficiency of emerging market banks. Our article examines this relationship for the Vietnamese strategic partner program, where foreign banks have been allowed to take minority stakes in local banks. We add to the existing literature by distinguishing between ownership by foreign strategic and non-strategic investors, and between foreign management sent by the strategic partner and independent foreign executives. We show that only the presence of independent foreign executives has a positive impact on banks. We interpret these results as the consequence of conflicts of interest and power struggles between local shareholders and the strategic partner, which prevent efficiency in enhancing technology transfer.     

Experiencing meaningfulness climate in teams: How spiritual leadership enhances team effectiveness when facing uncertain tasks

This study integrates social information processing theory with leadership and climate literature, and aims to produce novel theoretical insights into whether and how spiritual leadership and task uncertainty foster conditions to enhance meaningfulness climate and subsequent team effectiveness in China. Team effectiveness was operationalized as team performance and team organizational citizenship behavior (OCB). Based on data collected at three time points over 12 months from multiple sources of 123 teams in China, we found that spiritual leadership was positively related to team performance and team OCB through meaningfulness climate. Further, the relationship between spiritual leadership and meaningfulness climate was stronger for teams with high task uncertainty than teams with low task uncertainty.     

The interactive effects of organizational and leadership career management support on job satisfaction and turnover intention

In the organizational career management literature, scholars have focused on career management policies, with little attention given to practices that can vary within organizations. And despite its recognized importance, research on the role of leaders in the career management process is also scant. In this study, we investigate the effects of career management practices (OCPs) and leadership career support (LCS) on employee attitudes. Grounded on coping theory, we propose that career support received from line managers can be particularly consequential when OCPs are lacking. We analyze the moderating effects of LCS on the relationship between OCPs and both job satisfaction and turnover intention in a sample of employees from a large Brazilian organization, applying multiple regression analyses. Results showed that OCPs and LCS are positively related to job satisfaction and that OCPs are negatively related to turnover intention. In addition, we confirmed that LCS moderates the relationship between OCPs and both job satisfaction and turnover intention. Finally, we observed that the relationship between OCPs and turnover intention is mediated by job satisfaction. Theoretical and practical implications are discussed.

上海都市旅游规划的时空审视及其战略取向

时间和空间是物质存在的方式,也是旅游活动存在的方式.脱离了时间的空间,或者脱离了空间的时间,在实际上都是不可能存在的.针对上海城市对空间的重视程度高于对时间的关注之倾向,本文立足于二元一体的时空坐标,从辩证思维视角,对上海都市旅游作属性定位,提出了上海都市旅游的战略选择取向应当立足于"通过空间展示时间"的观点,进而在时空坐标战略钟的选择中,提出上海城市建设以及都市旅游发展战略选择的合理取向的某些构想.     

营利性组织和非营利性组织的战略联盟分析

本文时营利性组织和非营利性组织进行界定和区分,探讨了目前两者的合作现状,分析了二者合作的可能性,阐述了非营性组织的自身评估问题,可能选择的对象以及二者成立战略联盟的运作问题等,以期对二者在实践中的战略联盟有一定的理论指导意义。     

个体领导力形成因素的实证分析——以军队师团职政工领导干部为例

本文以军队师团职政工领导干部为研究对象,通过问卷调查和定量分析,初步验证:军队政工领导干部的领导力主要有16个因素形成,他们构成二阶层次结构。领导特质可作为领导力形成因素的综合表达,主要可通过三个一解因子——品德与价值观、关键领导能力、核心领导素质予以反映。同时,实证分析结果表明,领导者和非领导者对领导力形成因素的看法没有显著差别。

我国石油战略储备体系建设的若干思考

石油战略储备是关系到我国国家安全的重大问题。一方面,要建立和完善实物储备或现货储备,即讨论和呼声较高的石油战略储备,进一步完善相关制度设计;另一方面,还应抓紧建设战略储备体系的短板——石油期货储备。通过建立石油期货市场,加快推进石油期货交易,把金融安全与石油安全合并考虑,把石油现货储备、期货储备与外汇储备密切结合起来,建立外汇储备与石油储备的转换机制,使我国规模庞大的外汇储备服从、服务于国家的经济安全,提高国家的石油保障能力,从根本上保障我国的石油安全。
