Deconstructing the information era

Information theory, while claiming universality, ignores civilisation and spiritual perspectives of knowledge. Moreover, the information society heralded by many as the victory of humanity over darkness is merely capitalism disguised but now commodifying selves as well. This essay argues for a more communicative approach wherein futures can be created through authentic global conversations--a gaia of civilisations. Current trends, however, do not lie in that direction. Instead, we are moving towards temporal and cultural impoverishment. Is the Web then the iron cage or can a global ohana (family, civil society) be created through cybertechnologies? Answering these and other questions are possible only when we move to layers of analysis outside conventional understandings of information and the information era and to a paradigm where communication and culture are central.

Using Multiple Imputation to Integrate and Disseminate Confidential Microdata

In data integration contexts, two statistical agencies seek to merge their separate databases into one file. The agencies also may seek to disseminate data to the public based on the integrated file. These goals may be complicated by the agencies' need to protect the confidentiality of database subjects, which could be at risk during the integration or dissemination stage. This article proposes several approaches based on multiple imputation for disclosure limitation, usually called synthetic data, that could be used to facilitate data integration and dissemination while protecting data confidentiality. It reviews existing methods for obtaining inferences from synthetic data and points out where new methods are needed to implement the data integration proposals.

主成分分析法在油气开发方案技术经济评价中的应用

对油气产能建设性项目进行经济评价时,往往涉及到多个经济评价指标。为了突出反映项目可行性的重要指标,需要在损失一些次要信息的情况下,减少变量的个数,降到低维空间进行方案决策。在以主成分分析法讨论四川新场气田经济评价方案选择中的应用时,通过对样本的一些变换,确定样本的主成分及意义,求取综合主成分因子确定各个方案的综合经济评价指标,进一步选择最佳的实施方案。对方案Ⅵ和方案Ⅶ进行了敏感性分析,从另一个角度验证了方案Ⅵ和方案Ⅶ抗风险能力较强,证明采用主成分分析法选择方案的正确性。     

基于DSP和CPLD的光纤光栅解调系统的设计与实现

利用可调光纤F-P滤波器作为解调元件建立了光纤光栅温度解调系统,采用数字信号处理器外部中断实现反射谱峰值的准确定位。光纤光栅温度解调实验结果表明,解调系统的测量精度得到了提高。     

混沌噪声调频信号对UWB—SAR／ISAR成像的干扰

建立了n-Way Bernoulli混沌调频信号模型,分析了UWB-SAR/ISAR的成像特点,提出利用Bernoulli混沌噪声调频信号对UWB-SAR/ISAR进行成像干扰。仿真结果表明,利用Bernoulli混沌噪声调频信号干扰UWB-SAR/ISAR是可行的。
