This research examines whether, how, and why visual finish (i.e., whether a product/package is glossy or matte) can affect consumers' perceived effectiveness of problem-solving products. Drawing on approach–avoidance goal pursuit theory, this work classifies problem-solving products into problem-approaching and problem-avoiding ones according to their operation processes. A pilot study demonstrates that participants are more likely to choose a glossy finish over a matte one for a problem-avoiding (vs. problem-approaching) product. Studies 1 and 2 collectively find that glossy (vs. matte) finishes increase consumers' perceived effectiveness of a problem-avoiding product while the reverse is true for a problem-approaching product. Moreover, this effect is mediated by perceived trustworthiness of product function (Study 3). Studies 4–5 further document its consequential implications on willingness-to-pay (Study 4; incentive-compatible paradigm) and consumers' actual ad clicks (Study 5; field study). The findings contribute to the visual finish, product effectiveness, and approach–avoidance goal pursuit literatures. We identify the effects of greening vacant lots on nearby housing prices and show how neighborhood attributes matter to these outcomes. Using data from a longstanding program in Philadelphia, we find that prices for houses within 1,000 feet of a greened vacant lot rise by about 4%, consistent with the literature, with the effect size increasing over time. Using the extensive data available in Philadelphia, we show how these effects vary by the attributes of the neighborhood in which they occur, with larger effects in areas with a high share of vacant land and higher-than-average median household incomes, with peak responses estimated at 19% and 15%, respectively. While studies on visual communications of international development are small, scattered but well established, much of this comprises of representational analyses. However, studying development representations alone limits critical investigation of the complex contradictions and intersectionality that constitute their reception. Audience reception studies in this context are scarce, largely commissioned charity/NGO reports, with limited contributions to discussions. Nevertheless, this article examines these inquiries, evaluating their contributions, limitations and absences. Based on this critical review, I suggest a research framework outlined by a three-pronged proposition: (1) situating UK audiences of mediated development within their contradictory heterogeneity. (2) Moving beyond normative binaries and towards understanding the complexities and experiential variability of mediated development; and (3) studying audience reception as a ‘multi-sited ethnography’. 目的 水生态文明评价指标体系是衡量地区水生态文明建设水平,引导水生态文明建设方向的基础。探索构建适用于乡村的水生态文明建设评价指标体系,以期为乡村水生态文明建设提供理论基础。方法 文章利用文献计量可视化分析工具CiteSpace绘制水生态文明研究关键词知识图谱,研究当前水生态文明研究发展进展,建立第一层指标评价框架,同时以评价乡村水生态文明现状和未来水生态文明发展为出发点,通过关键文献指标高频统计和主观补充筛选出适合于乡村实际的具体指标,采用层次分析法和线性加权法建立了乡村水生态文明评价模型。结果 建立了以“水生态、水管理、水环境、水文化、水景观、水安全、特色指标”7个维度的第一层指标评价框架,确定了包含22项评价指标的乡村水生态文明建设评价指标体系。并基于2019年数据对典型乡村进行了水生态文明建设水平评价。结论 构建的乡村水生态文明评价指标体系可行有效。 相似文献
