The leading international standards for information security management, ISO/IEC 27001 and ISO/IEC 27002 originate from the UK, but are applied worldwide. This paper explores whether the processes of selection, implementation and use of these interrelated standards differ between China and Europe by studying cases of Chinese and European companies. Chinese companies face some additional problems with the standards but manage to get them successfully implemented in a short period of time. Main differences relate to governance and management of standard adoption. Tourism is an intangible combination of different but interrelated elements that resulting in opportunities for mistakes and complaints. The implementation of a formal quality management program is crucial for tourism businesses. The present study implemented a full-structured questionnaire to evaluate the perception of ISO 9000 certification of registered travel agencies in Mainland China. It was found that the perception of top management plays a critical part in determining the intention of the company to be certified. The study also highlighted that the certification could enhance competiveness of the firm in the domestic market, can project a competitive company image, and increase employee commitment to quality conformance and communication with customers. Nonetheless, the barriers of certification do not play an effective role in discriminating certification intenders and non-intenders and it can be explained when both intenders and non-intenders believe the certification process to be costly, time consuming, and highly specialized. 相似文献

This paper examines the sustainability and the changes experienced by a legal service organisation in the implementation of ISO 9001 in terms of reasons, benefits, and key success factors over an 8-year time interval. This exploratory study employs qualitative methods using a single case study approach. Data were collected through two phases of interviews, 1996 and 2004, with the same quality manager in the legal service organisation. Both interviews were based on a similar set of structured questions derived from the previous studies. Pattern matching was used to analyse and compare the 1996 and the 2004 findings. Three major findings are identified in this study. First, the internal reasons for implementing ISO 9001 are sustained, whereas the external reasons are diminished. Second, the benefits are mainly internal rather than external, and these are sustainable over time. Third, top management commitment and staff involvement are shown to be the critical factors of both the implementation and the maintenance of ISO 9001. The results contribute to a better understanding of the benefits of ISO 9001 as well as the level of commitment required to sustain these benefits. The results also show the learning process taken up by firms in better understanding the value of ISO 9001 implementation over time. 相似文献

The article analyses processes of ISO quality system implementation in small and medium size companies in the new EU member countries. Being a managerial standard by its definition, ISO is important for companies not only in improving their management system an upgrading/sustaining quality of the output. As an internationally recognised and certificated system, ISO plays a significant role in developing international partnerships and developing overall competitiveness of enterprises. This is especially important for SMEs from new EU member-states, since they are relatively unknown to their international counterparts. Having a certified ISO system, such enterprises can speed-up development of partnerships and joining of international supply chains. This strongly influences motivations of ISO system implementation.On the basis of data that covers 8 years period in three countries, author argues that motivations to implement ISO system significantly differ from the benefits that are experienced after its implementation. Marketing and sales arguments play role of the main motivators before ISO system implementation, while managerial benefits are mainly stated as the most important after the system is implemented. The change of opinions is generated by the SME managers’ personal experience, which fills the gap between expectations and realities. 相似文献

The ISO certification process has been in existence for 14 years. During that time, hundreds of thousands of suppliers of mainly industrial products and services have become ISO 9000 registered. However, the adoption rate of ISO 9000 certifications in US industry has lagged that of other developed countries. This is now changing; the number of new ISO 9000 certifications being obtained annually in the US is currently higher than most other countries in the world. Concurrently, the ISO 9000 certification series recently underwent a major revision, and much has been learned about the ISO 9000 certification process over the last 14 years. Therefore, industrial marketers who have taken a wait and see approach or have decided that the process is irrelevant to their businesses may need to reconsider this decision. To assist in this process, this article reviews the former and current ISO 9000 certification process, discusses the criticisms of the program, provides information regarding costs and benefits of certification, and offers suggestions for effectively integrating certification with the marketing program. 相似文献
