In an era of intense global competition, companies are searching for ways to achieve competitive advantage. The development of visually attractive products and physical settings can aid in the creation of brand differentiation and influence the purchasing behaviour of consumers. Image and style are important within consumer culture, as can be observed in everything from automobiles and home furnishings to clothes and Internet sites. Design appears to have transformed an ever expanding range of goods and spaces into attractive and enchanting commodities and commercial environments. In this paper, it is argued that the appearance of hotels is increasingly characterized by a form of commodified enchantment, the product of an aestheticization process that aims to create novelty, surprise, and excitement. Aesthetic ennoblement has become a reflection of capitalism's drive to produce appealing and fashionable environments that turn pleasure and comfort into profit. Children's perceptions of suboptimal fruits and vegetables have not been studied in the suboptimal foods domain. Using two qualitative research methods, this study investigates children's (N = 97) edibility perceptions of suboptimal produce with varied appearance defects. The results show that unlike adult samples previously studied, children are more accepting of suboptimal produce. Defects in shape, size, and certain colour defects were positively perceived, reflecting retailers' opportunities to market suboptimal produce. High levels of brown discolorations and superficial blemishes were not acceptable, implying that produce with such defects could be repurposed as ingredients in foods prepared and sold in-store. These implications reflect retailers' opportunities in marketing suboptimal produce to children, who by their familial influence may also be able to get families to buy and consume suboptimal produce. The importance of familiarity in improving suboptimal food acceptance is also recognised for future research to explore. 相似文献

A review of the literature indicates that faculty, students, and employers recognize the importance of professional behaviors
for a successful career. These professional behaviors were defined by business school faculty to include honesty and ethical
decision making, regular attendance and punctuality, professional dress and appearance, participation in professional organizations,
and appropriate behavior during meetings. This paper presents the results of a survey administered to managers, faculty, and
students about how business school professors can teach these professional behaviors. A hypothesis was tested that managers,
professors, and students differ in their perceptions about what is appropriate professional behavior. Using a scale of strongly
agree to strongly disagree to respond to critical incidents, one-way ANOVA indicated no group differences for items about
cheating, plagiarism, and helping students to work projects on schedule. Group differences were found for ethics items (raising
course grade for the purpose of tuition reimbursement, stopping excessive use of school printers, simplifying course work
to accommodate weaker students), time management items (making accommodations for students unable to regularly attend class,
refusing to admit late students), appearance items (requiring students to dress in suits for major presentations, counseling
a student with facial piercing), and for items about required activities inside and outside of the classroom.

This study investigated the prevalence of lookism through a content analysis of nursing recruitment advertisements in China. Lookism or physical appearance-based discrimination is prevalent in roles predominantly occupied by women. This attributive bias assumes greater significance in the context of a patriarchal society like China within industries such as nursing that are highly feminized. Nevertheless, few studies explore the existence of lookism within the nursing industry in China. Reporting on the intent of Chinese health care employers to discriminate based on physical appearance, this article argues for awareness of and sensitivity toward the implications of workplace lookism in China. 相似文献
