This article explores the following hypothesis: There is a statistically significant relationship between a project manager's leadership competencies and project success. Two proven questionnaires, the leadership dimensions questionnaire (LDQ) and the project success questionnaire (PSQ), were used to gather data from 52 project managers and project sponsors from a financial services company in the United Kingdom. The results from the LDQ and PSQ are presented in this article. A factor analysis of PSQ revealed three independent factors: usability, project delivery, and value of output to clients. The last factor is not related to project leadership or management, so the article concentrates on correlations between the other two factors and project leadership. Eight separate leadership dimensions were found to be statistically significantly related to performance, so the hypothesis was largely supported. Identifying such relationships provides managers with guidance on possible selection and project improvement models, whereby increased capability in leadership dimensions can lead to increased success in project management. 相似文献

This study aims to differentiate firm-level capabilities in terms of managerial-level competencies of a Sri Lankan telecommunication service provider. A framework is developed and survey data are used to identify a range of factors at managerial competency level that form firm-level capabilities as a result. Multiple regression is used to identify how much variance in the latter is predicted by the former. It is expected that the methodology adopted in identifying and integrating managerial-level competencies and firm-level capabilities provides an innovative integrated methodology of significant value for practitioners and academics alike. From the management development viewpoint, it is important to know whether managers possess the required competencies to achieve successful job performance. This could be identified by exploring the competency needs. The aim of the paper is to present and discuss results of an empirical investigation on managerial competency needs using quantitative methodology. The study is confined to a fully integrated telecommunication service provider; 198 managerial employees participated in the survey. The findings led to identification of: perceived levels of current competency expertise; current and future competency gaps; and competencies that managers wish to improve. ABSTRACT The tourism industry is one of the main sources of income to Hong Kong. If qualified employees provide better service, Hong Kong can potentially attract even more visitors. The training of new recruits and existing staff is therefore vital, but views on the value and the type of training vary amongst the stakeholders. This study of the views of hotel human resources managers revealed that they considered that people who were interested in developing their career in the hospitality industry must be prepared to start at the bottom. The hotel human resources managers strongly believe that employees must have a positive service-mind and commitment to the industry with a certain degree of working experience. Employers perceived these were important components to success for every member of staff, rather than having a good educational background. This paper analyzes spinoffs of Japanese firms and the use of the spinoff as an instrument to achieve corporate growth objectives. The initial separation of the organizations and its governance mode are analyzed in the context of transaction costs theory. Spinoffs may be created in order to (1) balance costs associated with managing diversified businesses, (2) generate growth based on core competencies of a firm, and (3) pursue an efficient internal labor market. In a changing environment, the spinoff has been a widely used flexible organizational arrangement that is suitable to survival and offers an alternative way of diversification. 相似文献

The relationship between supply chain competencies and performance has been somewhat elusive. The 21st Century Logistics framework, developed at Michigan State University is currently assessed as to its global relevance, particularly relating to performance. A sample of U.S. firms is compared to a sample of Australian and New Zealand firms to assess the robustness of the framework across different business environments as well as to better understand the supply chain competencies/performance relationship. Results suggest that the framework is reasonably robust across environments, although some improvements in future versions of the framework are suggested. Additionally, results confirm that supply chain competencies do lead to improved performance. Interestingly, supply chain competencies appear to be employed in different ways to create different performance advantages across the various business environments. 相似文献

The focus of the present study was the rationality of moral behaviour and moral conviction. Assumptions like "morality pays" or "good ethics is good business" are not a priori right. Whether morality as personal conviction is also economically rational or not depends in large part on the institutional setting of a society and the likelihood that immoral behaviour will be sanctioned. The systematic approach to morality thus appears to be political economy and the institutional setting: rules and laws. However, the conditions for morality depend not only on the formal structures but also on the informal structures of rules and sanctions. Hence, the systematic approach to morality is most closely linked with the culture of a society; the efficiency of individual morality depends on social conditions. It is costly for individuals and societies to establish and entertain conditions that set clear incentives for moral behaviour. In this context, moral competencies, learning, and education play a crucial role. 相似文献
