Consistent with Mahoney and Pandian's (1992) vision of the resource-based view as the emergent language for conversations within strategic management, this paper has employed a resource-based framework in integrating and interpreting identified influences on export performance. Aggregate evidence suggests the critical importance of several resource-related factors, including having top management staff with relevant experiential, orientational and attitudinal resources; ‘co-locating’ within resource-supporting clusters; possessing organisational-wide capabilities in export-related knowledge development and planning, product innovation, and quality service delivery; and leveraging strategically-relevant resources embodied in external partners. The theoretical, managerial, policy, and future research implications of these findings are discussed.  相似文献

Abstract

Despite the pervasiveness of Information Technology (IT) in organizations, IT competencies for non Information Systems professionals such as Human Resource (HR) managers have been overlooked and limited attention has been paid to the interrelationships between IT and non-IT competencies. Building upon signaling theory and the configurational approach, this study characterizes actual IT and HR competencies that firms signal when recruiting for HR manager positions. A content analysis of 207 online job advertisements of HR manager positions is first conducted. Using factor analysis, three bundles of competencies are unveiled: IT, strategy, and employee and workplace well-being. Then, a cluster analysis approach that combines hierarchical and non-hierarchical clustering algorithms is applied, followed by discriminant function analysis for validation. The study uncovers three strongly separated clusters of recruiting organizations based on required IT and HR competencies for HR manager positions. The clusters are labeled according to their dominant required competencies: (1) strategy proponents ?10% (2) technology proponents ?30%, and (3) basic proponents ?60%. The proposed classification goes beyond the normative understanding of IT competencies for HR managers and the way they combine with HR competencies: it provides a well-structured and parsimonious lens that is useful for recruiters, applicants, and educators.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study was to explain the extent to which communication competencies and personality types influence tour guides’ performances, as measured by two livelihood indicators: earned tips and overall income. Data were collected from a sample of 387 professional tour guides via self-report survey. The study results suggest that some verbal and non-verbal communication competencies play a role in predicting tips earned. Moreover, the study has found that three of the Big Five personality traits are useful predictors of tips and general income. Theoretical and practical implications are discussed within the realm of Theory of Communication Competence and Big Five Personality Traits.  相似文献

企业家制度能力和企业家战略能力是中国经济体制改革对企业家主导性能力的现实要求。战略企业家是具有很强制度能力和战略能力的企业家,是制度变迁中的企业家成长的高级模式。在价值判断意义上,"浙商"企业家成长模式与制度变迁进程存在动态适应关系。在浙江处于市场经济体制完善时期,"浙商"应该成为战略企业家,而"浙商"要成长为战略企业家,面临着制度约束和战略约束。打破这些约束,有三条路径可供选择:"先制度能力,后战略能力"路径;"先战略能力,后制度能力"路径;"制度能力和战略能力并举"路径。  相似文献

The pursuit of superior salesperson performance and higher levels of sales organization effectiveness is a growing management priority. Management control is an important antecedent to several aspects of salesperson performance and organizational effectiveness. However, prior research has neglected two important issues. First, the impact of market orientation on sales manager control approaches has not been previously considered. Second, sales manager competencies in behavior-based control have not been examined, as research has focused on the level and form of control. Market orientation and the critical sales skills required of salespeople have strong antecedent relationships with sales manager control. Also, sales manager control competencies play a significant role in shaping salesperson performance, and the impact of control competencies is larger than control level. Sales manager control competencies play an important mediating role between sales manager control level and salesperson performance and sales organization effectiveness. Our findings are based on a study of British companies in which five hundred sales managers were sent surveys and 300 usable responses (a response rate of 60%) were returned. Three important implications derived from this study include: (1) sales managers need to translate market orientation into sales force behaviors; (2) control strategy should be aligned with sales force priorities; and (3) time and resources should be invested in training sales managers.  相似文献
