Marketing Australia overseas—a corporate perspective

The Australian Tourist Commission promotes international tourism to Australia. It undertakes a range of marketing activities including advertising, public relations and tourist trade promotions. It does not sell travel. The tourist industry in Australia contributes 6% to Gross Domestic Product and employment. International tourism in Australia accounts for around 15% of all tourism. Australia is divided into eight states and territories all of which promote tourism within the country and also undertake offshore promotions with the Australian Tourist Commission. The strategy of the Commission for the next 3 years includes an emphasis on conventions and incentives, market research, quality promotions and special interest travel across a broad range of markets.     

More on the Discounting of Residual Income Streams

The purpose of this paper is to take the conclusions reached by Peasnell (1981, 1982) and Kay (1976) and show that the use of discounted residual incomes for project evaluation purposes requires the prior appraisal on a cash flow basis. The use of residual income at the investment planning and subsequently at the accounting stages is also evaluated.     

Progression in Technology Education in New Zealand: Components of Practice as a Way Forward

Understanding and undertaking technological practice is fundamental to student learning in technology education in New Zealand, and the enhancement of student technological literacy. The implementation of technology into New Zealand’s core curriculum has reached the stage where it has become critical that learning programmes are based on student progression to allow for a seamless education in technology from early primary to senior secondary. For this to occur, teachers and students need to focus learning on key features of technology education. This paper is based on research initiated in 2001 which explored the nature of progression of student learning in technology. It draws on findings from research undertaken in New Zealand classrooms in 1999–2000 that resulted in the development of the technology assessment framework (TAF), (as reported in detail Compton & Harwood 2003). The 1999–2001 research was funded by the New Zealand Ministry of Education. Findings from the 2001 research allowed for the identification of key features of technology education that are relevant across all age groups, contexts and technological areas. These key features were collectively termed components of practice. The three components of practice established to date are brief development, planning for practice, and outcome development and evaluation. This paper discusses the development of progression matrices for each of these and provides illustrative examples of student work levelled against the matrix indicators of progression for brief development.

湖南西部山区开发是该区脱贫的重要措施,也是维持自然生态安全的重要保障;如何实现湖南西部山区可持续发展和生态安全保障的双赢,对该区扶贫及今后的开发具有非常重要的意义。过去的开发,存在着毁林开荒,毁草开荒;森林资源经营不当;生物多样性资源价值认识偏颇;城镇化过程无序;扶贫方式等方面的问题与不足,这些问题可采用景观生态规划先行,实施森林分类经营,加强天然林保护工程建设,进行生态农业和生态村镇建设,开展山区景观生态建设等景观生态学途径来实现。     

多目标规划在保险公司决策管理中的应用研究——以产险公司业务和资产结构决策为例

本文在公司价值最大化的终极目标下,通过分析保险公司各个层级的发展目标,指出保险公司的决策管理具有多目标属性。在对多目标规划理论进行系统梳理的基础上,以产险公司的业务和资产结构决策为例,构建了以公司规模、利润和风险为目标的资本和监管约束下的多目标规划模型。分析发现,将多目标规划理论应用于保险公司管理中的确能够平衡不同目标的关系,有效提高公司经营的稳健性。     

意识启蒙与非英语专业大学生翻译能力的培养

大学英语翻译教学的目的在于培养学生的翻译能力,启发培养学生的翻译意识有助于学生树立科学的翻译观并提高其翻译实践能力。根据大学英语课程相关教学要求,借鉴Albert Neubert提出的翻译能力的五个参数,基于笔者的教学经验,阐述在翻译教学中应加强学生3大主要意识英汉语言、文化对比意识、语篇意识和文体意识,以利于加强大学生的翻译意识及能力。     

传统孝道文化对农村家庭养老作用的局限性——以湖南省永州市农村家庭养老调研为例

进入21世纪的中国人口老龄化情况越来越严重。一个严峻的话题摆在了我们面前,那就是农村养老问题。而传统孝道作为中国一直传承下来的美德一直在影响着农村的养老问题。现在,我们以永州市农村地区的农村家庭养老调研为例,通过调查探讨传统孝道对农村老年人家庭赡养的局限性及其原因,同时对其生活水平,情感生活、知识获得和自我表现等方面的心理需求进行调查和剖析,并结合实际,提出建议。     

园林景观规划设计与地域文化

地域文化的缺失导致园林景观规划设计及其实施效果呈现雷同的趋势,通过提出规划设计中地域文化的范畴和意义,强调了体现地域文化在规划设计中的重要性。借助三个实际的规划设计案例从宏观角度提出规划概念应与地域自然特点、人文特点等要素有机结合,从而从微观角度提出设计可采用保留、抽取、融合、再现等手法来体现地域文化。此外,在规划设计中运用地域文化应该注意契合性、创新性、烂漫性及可实施性等的几个方面的问题。
