On-Job Training—A Critical Human Resources Challenge in China's Hotel Industry

Abstract

The strategic role of human resources function in China's hotel industry is more important than ever before. An increasing number of hotels begin to recognize its significance of such role in sustaining growth in the competitive hotel marketplace. This study focuses on the on-job training aspect of the human resources by first identifying the major problems faced by the industry. The underlying factors of the problems are then investigated; and possible solutions are recommended. The discussion is in the context of five stakeholders in the on-job training function of China's hotel industry. They include hotel employees, hotel management, government agencies, universities, and non-university training institutions.

在未来几年，物业管理服务行业将迎来迅猛发展，物业管理服务行业对人才的需求将越来越大，特别是对实用性强、操作能力强的人才的需求更旺盛。文章认为中职院校所培养的物业管理专业学生更适合物业行业的特点，并在物业行业对于初、中级人才的需求上进行了分析和研究。     

A multiple group analysis of the training transfer model: exploring the differences between high and low performers in a Korean insurance company

This study suggests an integrative transfer of training model and examines the influence of pre-training performance on the relationship between work environment variables and transfer-related variables. Structural equation modeling was conducted with data collected from 365 Korean employees of a large general insurance firm. They were all participants in a leadership development program. The results of multi-group analyses revealed that the influence of work environment variables on transfer-related variables was moderated by employees' pre-training performance. The findings of the study imply that a more elaborate training transfer model that considers performance not just as an outcome variable, but also as an antecedent variable is required. Also, it is proposed that different strategies should be applied to promote transfer of training based on the employee's level of pre-training performance.

本文通过调查问卷法、文献资料法、数据统计法、访谈法就西安朱雀网球俱乐部市场的教学规模、参加网球学习的学员具体情况做出分析。发现网球培训价格偏高,网球培训的配套服务较少,广告煤体选择欠佳,促销手段单一,工作人员服务质量欠缺等问题。针对这些问题提出了:改进宣传方法,加大宣传力度,完善配套项目,提高教学质量,提供优质服务,加强俱乐部合作等建议。这些建议为西安朱雀网球俱乐部的经营管理工作提供了理论参考依据。     

The Challenges of Providing Training in Small Sized Lodging Properties

ABSTRACT

Labor issues confront the lodging industry in good times and in bad. Employee training is viewed as a means to manage labor challenges and the hospitality industry is not well known for specializing in employee training. Small sized properties have unique challenges to implementing training practices and this study focused on understanding the training practices of small sized lodging properties. Two hundred eighteen lodging owners/general managers responded to a mailed questionnaire regarding training practices. Overall, less small properties provide training. Properties value training similarly, however, small properties provide less training, experience lower occupancy, are less often profitable, and experience some unique barriers to training. Considerations must be made for this lodging group and suggestions for addressing these issues are provided.
