While downsizing has been widely studied, its connection to firm ownership status and the reasons behind it are missing from
extant research. We explore the relationship between downsizing and family ownership status among Fortune 500 firms. We␣propose
that family firms downsize less than non-family firms, irrespective of performance, because their relationship with employees
is based on normative commitments rather than financial performance alone. We suggest that their actions are related to employee-
and community-friendly policies. We find that family businesses do downsize less irrespective of financial performance considerations.
However, their actions are not related to their employee- or community-friendly practices. The results raise issues related
to the motivations of large multinationals to␣downsize and the drivers of their stakeholder management practices.
Eleni T. Stavrou is an Assistant Professor of Management and Organization at the Department of Public and Business Administration of the University
of Cyprus. She received her Ph.D. in Management and Organization from George Washington University, USA. Her work has been
published in various academic journals including Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice, Journal of Applied Social Psychology,
Journal of Organizational Behavior, Journal of Small Business Management, International Small Business Journal and Journal
of European Industrial Training. Her research interests are: flexibility at work, strategic human resource management, succession
planning, group and family dynamics, intergenerational transitions, and organizational culture.
George I. Kassinis is an Assistant Professor of Management at the Department of Public and Business Administration of the University of Cyprus.
He received his Ph.D. from Princeton University, USA. His work has been published in various academic journals including the
Academy of Management Journal, Production and Operations Management and Strategic Management Journal. His research focuses
on stakeholders, organizations and the natural environment, environmental management issues in services, social networks,
and industrial ecology. He serves on the editorial board of Organisation Studies.

This paper aims to build a structured literature review of the field of market orientation and its impact on tourism small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) performance in developing countries. This literature review will present a comprehensive survey of market orientation (MO) published articles to facilitate good understanding of MO. It serves as an archive and aims to help the scholars and practitioners to explore, analyse, and develop a clear understanding about the different research points and methodologies implemented in previous studies related to MO and its impact on tourism SMEs’ performance. The paper systematically reviews and categorizes the published literature implementing a three-stage methodology, and thereafter analyzes and reviews this literature methodologically. The review covered many areas and identified some factors that drive/hinder market-oriented activities within tourism SMEs. Furthermore, suggestions have been made to understand more thoroughly how market orientation influences tourism SMEs performance in developing economies. A research gap in the area of market orientation and tourism SMEs performance in developing countries was identified. The study provides great benefits for owner-managers, government policy makers, scholars, and educators by clarifying the concept of market orientation and its relationship with performance in the context of tourism SMEs. 相似文献

Drawing on a multiple case study approach and data on eight entrepreneurial teams observed over six months this article develops a dynamic model of the consequences of equity distribution among team members. Perceived justice of equity distribution emerged as a key variable influencing entrepreneurial team interactions and important entrepreneurial outcomes. High perceived justice triggered positive team interaction spirals, whereas low perceived justice triggered negative interaction spirals. Teams exposed to external threats drifted from a positive spiral to a negative spiral despite high perceived justice. We discuss the implications of our study for research on entrepreneurial imprints, justice, and exit. 相似文献

本文将家族企业代际传承分为参与管理、共同管理和接收管理三个阶段,探究了处于不同阶段家族企业的绩效情况以及二代推动的家族企业战略转型对企业绩效的影响。利用2010-2012年我国A股主板上市公司中家族企业的样本展开实证研究,得出如下结论:二代进入家族企业高管,参与家族企业的日常经营和战略决策,或者与一代共同管理家族企业,对企业业绩产生正面影响;由于样本数量较少的客观原因,接收管理后企业绩效的经济后果关系未能得到证实;二代推动的战略转型对共同管理和企业绩效的关系起反向调节作用,在代际传承的共同管理阶段实施战略转型会降低原有真实绩效。 相似文献

In the present work we first theoretically contextualise the importance of social and environmental responsibility in the firm, at the same time analysing the relation between this variable and firm performance, for which the literature provides contradictory results. In the hotel sector this controversy is particularly relevant, given the intense relations and dependencies that this industry has with its environmental context. 通过对免除农业税前后(2004年、2005年)陕西省勉县50名村干部、100名农户的跟踪调查及2005年10月对陕西省户县50名村干部的问卷调查发现,发展经济、提供公益服务将成为免除农业税后村干部最重要的工作,村干部的服务性职能明显增强。针对免除农业税后村干部面临的现实困境,本文认为解决问题的关键是要建立和完善村干部职能转变的激励机制。为此,本文重点构建了免除农业税后村干部的业绩测评体系,提出了要建立村干部的绩效工资机制等。 相似文献

文章运用EVA这一衡量公司治理绩效的新指标,对我国股份制商业银行治理结构作了回归分析。结果表明,第一大股东持股比例及国有性质与绩效正相关,董事会规模及高管人员薪酬与EVA回报率呈负相关关系,高管人员持股也对银行绩效产生正向影响,而股权集中度、董事会会议次数、监事会规模及会议次数、银行规模均未对银行绩效产生影响。 相似文献
