Hotel roomrates under the influence of a large event: The Oktoberfest in Munich 2012

Surprisingly few studies deal with the implications of large events for hotel prices. We address this issue by modeling hotel prices in Munich under the influence of the Oktoberfest. By utilizing internet data from a metasearch provider for check-in dates prior to and during the Oktoberfest 2012, it is analyzed how the event affected the daily price level as well as price differentials between hotels. In general, average hotel prices are very volatile over time. Apparently, Munich hotels tend to set prices according to expected demand and vary those depending on the day of the week during the event. Ceteris paribus, roomrates are highest on Oktoberfest Friday and Saturday nights, followed by Oktoberfest weekdays and Oktoberfest Sunday nights, but there is a general and strong price-raising impact. Prices differ across hotels mainly due to the star category attributed to a hotel and the proximity to the event. Both price premia are time-dependent.

The Case of the Baltic Region： The History of the Faculty of Trade and Commerce

In the anticipation of the 150th anniversary of the Riga Technical University （Latvia）, some questions have become the objects of historical research. This article is devoted to the beginnings of the Faculty of Trade and Commerce in Latvia. The article reviews the historical situation and documents characterising the establishment of the faculty of the new educational institution; attention has been mostly paid to the history up to 1896 when the school underwent reorganisation.

基于政府利益要求及其实现方式的非财务指标关注程度实证研究

从政府角度出发,对政府所关注的反映其利益要求和实现方式信息的非财务指标进行了排序研究和分组研究。研究得出结论:政府对不同类的反映其利益要求和实现方式信息的非财务指标的关注程度存在显著的差异;越是反映政府排列在前的利益要求和实现方式信息的非财务指标越受政府关注。企业对政府相关信息的充分沟通更易取得政府对企业的理解和支持。企业除应按相关法律法规的规定进行规定信息的披露外,还应当根据本企业利益相关者政府对非财务指标关注的需要以及关注程度的差异对政府所关注的非财务指标信息对政府进行充分信息沟通,以满足政府关注相关信息的需要。     

Can China Help Lower World Inflation?: A Panel Study

In this paper, the effect of China's imports on importing countries' inflation is examined. Using data from 1994 to 2003, it is argued that China's export surge is an important contributor to lowering inflation in importing countries. Using fixed and random effect models, we identify a statistically significant negative correlation between the share of a country's imports from China and its rate of inflation.     

Evidence of the impacts of public e-procurement: The Portuguese experience

This paper analyses public e-procurement implementation and emphasizes its main difficulties and impacts in relation to the type of public organizations. The primary impacts and changes in the Portuguese public sector are analyzed within the new legal framework, which adopts mandatory e-procurement for any open, restricted or negotiated procedure. In this sense, two surveys carried out in consecutive years were conducted to assess the implementation difficulties and impact of e-procurement in the Portuguese public sector.The major value of this research is that it presents and discusses, for the first time, evidences about difficulties and impacts on the mandatory adoption of public e-procurement, based on the case of Portugal. The results show that the entities’ administrative level influences the e-procurement implementation, which is influenced by the innovation adoption process.
