A methodology is presented for designing zonal services for a bus corridor, in which buses visit all stops in a route’s initial and final segments, skipping all stops in between. Two heuristics are described, one for congested (binding capacity) and other for uncongested cases. An experiment on a bidirectional corridor shows that the heuristics can find savings in social costs of 6.6% and 10.3% when compared to an express-service-only solution. We also show that, in some cases, the zonal service design problem can be solved analytically, outperforming the heuristics. This suggests the two approaches could be employed in tandem.  相似文献

Ports provide services rather than producing physical products. However, port cost functions specify port cost as functions of physical products, e.g., port cargo throughput long-run cost is a function of port resource prices and cargo throughput (a physical product). In comparison, port cargo service long-run cost is a function of port resource prices, cargo service and shipper cargo received. The shipper provides cargo that is serviced by the port. A service cannot be touched and its user is involved in its provision. This paper derives port cost functions for which port outputs are “service outputs”, e.g., cargo, vessel and vehicle services.  相似文献

This study (a) investigates the perception of medical practitioners regarding medical tourism, and (b) examines the differences in the perception of medical practitioners regarding the importance of the services involved. The hypotheses are focused on a series of comparisons of medical institutions that “are or are not involved in medical tourism.” The results showed that (i) professionalism of treatment is recognized as the most important factor regardless of the nature and value of the medical treatment provided while a patient travels; and that (ii) there are no significant differences in surgery, treatment, examination, in-hospital and patient room costs.  相似文献

This study integrates the individual psychology constructs (personal innovativeness and subjective knowledge) with the Technology Acceptance Model to develop and test a model of airline passengers’ continuance intention towards online flight check-in services. Predictions were tested with data from a sample of airline passengers in China who have experienced the online check-in service. The findings of this study demonstrate that airline passengers’ innovativeness and subjective knowledge have a direct effect on continuance intention, and an indirect effect through partial mediation of perceived ease of use and perceived usefulness. This research paper assesses the recent past and antic- ipated research practices of a random sample of U.S. newspapers. Past and anticipated participation in circulation, advertising, and ed- itorial research was assessed. Dimensions of interest were method- ologies utilized, expenditures, and providers of the research. The purpose of this study is to add to the body of knowledge on customer loyalty in professional services in business-to-business markets. The authors build on the Industrial Marketing and Purchasing group constructs and relate them to affective commitment, relational benefits and, through these two, to customer loyalty. The results show that trust and social bonds positively influence affective commitment, while adaptation and knowledge transfers positively influence relational benefits. Although both affective commitment as a more emotional construct and relational benefits as a more rational construct positively influence customer loyalty, emotional motivation seems to be much stronger than rational motivation. Theoretical and managerial implications are discussed on the basis of the empirical findings.  相似文献

Abandonment and conversion of cultural agrarian landscapes are major drivers behind the loss of ecosystem services in Europe. One incentive for land-use conversion is the higher (private) economic return from industrial mono-functional crops relative to traditional multi-functional ones. However, conversion of cultural agrarian landscapes can involve high direct and indirect costs to society through the loss of ecosystem services. Using as a case study the traditional vineyards surrounding the Doñana National Park, South-West Spain, this research has three objectives: i) to measure soil erosion impacts from the conversion of traditional vineyards in biophysical and economic terms, (ii) to identify drivers of change behind the loss of traditional vineyards, and iii) to assess the applicability of economic instruments to protect traditional vineyards. Our results suggest that uprooting of traditional vineyards is an important driver behind the siltation of the marsh in the Doñana National Park, which in turns involve socio-environmental costs in terms of loss of ecosystem services and cultural values. Subsidy reform to reward management practices that sustain ecosystem services and eco-labelling of vine-derived products are pointed at as promising economic instruments to slow down or reverse abandonment or conversion of traditional vineyards.  相似文献
