EUROPE – HOW CAN THINGS GET BETTER?

In the 2010 Wincott Lecture, the author – a former European Commissioner – explains how the process of policy‐making within the European Union can be improved. In order to gain the full benefits of an open and integrated single market, the EU must stop interfering in areas that should properly be the responsibility of member states. However, in the context of the current economic crisis, the EU should take a greater role in financial regulation and in ensuring fiscal responsibility among members of the eurozone.     

Enhancing Statistics Education by Including Qualitative Research

In this paper, we propose to re‐examine the role of qualitative thinking in the early stages of learning statistics and, where relevant, integrate selected elements of qualitative research methods into statistics curricula. We believe that this can help to improve statistics education, deepen desired student understanding of the role of statistics in providing answers to real‐world problems and address recurring concerns about student motivation. The paper clarifies the logic underlying our proposal, examines existing connections between qualitative and quantitative research during instruction that often go unacknowledged and can be built upon, explores practical implementation issues and discusses advantages as well as limitations of the proposed approach.

该文以2004年至2006年期间发生的民营企业买壳上市的案例为对象,研究我国民营企业买壳上市的动机,研究发现买壳后的资产重组与民营企业买壳绩效显著正相关,我国民营企业买壳上市更多是协同动机而非掏空动机!
