Socioeconomic Index for Income and Poverty Prediction: A Sufficient Dimension Reduction Approach

The present paper introduces a novel method for the construction of Socioeconomic Status (SES) indices that are specific to a target variable of interest. It is based on the Sufficient Dimension Reduction (SDR) paradigm and uses a factorized model-based approach to simultaneously deal with predictor variables of mixed nature (i.e. quantitative, binary, and ordinal), which are usual in microeconomic data. These SES indices also identify relevant predictor variables using a two-step regularized matrix factorization approach. Using data from household surveys for Argentina (Encuesta Permanente de Hogares-EPH), the proposed method is compared with other existing dimension reduction algorithms such as standard Principal Component Analysis (PCA) and its version for mixed variables, regression on the full set of variables and Least Absolute Shrinkage and Selection Operator regression (LASSO).

Time-frequency co-movements between oil prices and interest rates: Evidence from a wavelet-based approach

This paper investigates time–frequency co-movements between crude oil prices and interest rates. To test this relationship, the study applied a continuous wavelet and cross wavelet approaches to data from West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude oil prices and interest rates in the United States (U.S.). Results from the sample period revealed significant relationships, in the intermediate term, between WTI crude oil prices and U.S. interest rates. Moreover, co-movements between oil price and interest rate variables were especially sensitive during abnormal political events and periods of financial ‘meltdown’. We further use Partial Wavelet Coherence (PWC) and Multiple Wavelet Coherence (MWC) methods to investigate the impacts of five major control variables namely GDP growth, unemployment, three-month Treasury bill, CPI index and industrial production index. The results show a powerful impact of control variables on oil-interest rates co-movements under different frequencies. Finally, we show evidence of co-integrating long run relationship between oil markets and control variables. These results have important implications for energy investors and policy makers.

Statistical Inference,Learning and Models in Big Data

The need for new methods to deal with big data is a common theme in most scientific fields, although its definition tends to vary with the context. Statistical ideas are an essential part of this, and as a partial response, a thematic program on statistical inference, learning and models in big data was held in 2015 in Canada, under the general direction of the Canadian Statistical Sciences Institute, with major funding from, and most activities located at, the Fields Institute for Research in Mathematical Sciences. This paper gives an overview of the topics covered, describing challenges and strategies that seem common to many different areas of application and including some examples of applications to make these challenges and strategies more concrete.

越来越多的企业的产出正在由实物产品为主向服务产品为主转变,但很少有学者关注产出服务化战略概念的测量问题.本文运用文献分析法,阐明了产出服务化战略的维度,开发了相关的研究假设,构建了产出服务化战略的影响因素及其绩效的概念框架,并指明研究的管理含义.这种理论分析为未来的实证研究提供了重要的基础.     

基于分形理论的南通市城镇体系研究

运用分形理论从等级规模和空间结构两方面分析了南通市城镇体系结构特征。研究结果表明,南通市城镇等级规模分形维数D为0.7731,小于1,这说明南通市城镇规模等级结构较为分散,属首位分布类型,城镇体系发育不成熟;城镇空间关联维数D′=1.2577,这表明南通市城镇相关程度较小,空间布局较分散;就如何优化南通市城镇体系结构提出了参考建议。     

企业研发人员创新绩效评价维度及其作用机理

通过总结和分析企业研发人员创新绩效评价文献,发现企业研发人员创新绩效评价的6个维度——投入产出、创新过程、创新能动、市场导向、组织沟通和知识管理。基于上述6个维度,借助结构方程模型,进一步提炼出企业研发人员创新绩效评价的关键维度,并系统分析了其对企业研发人员创新绩效的作用机理。     

商业模式的理论框架述评

新经济的出现和企业商业模式的创新大大地促进了人们对企业经营规律认识的深化,使企业商业模式的理论研究出现了方兴未艾之势。文章在对近十年有关商业模式研究的文献进行梳理的基础上,讨论了商业模式的含义和商业模式的本质,提出了商业模式设计的结构性维度。
