When the burger becomes halal: a critical discourse analysis of privilege and marketplace inclusion

Although a rich body of research provides insights to understanding stigma within the marketplace, much less is known regarding its direct corollary, privilege. We posit that this void is problematic as it may inadvertently support and legitimate existing socio-political arrangements which inhibit consumer wellbeing and marketplace equality. The present study addresses this gap by offering a theoretical understanding of privilege within the marketplace. Using a Foucauldian approach to privilege and power, we draw on the discursive perspective on legitimation to critically investigate the contentious debate over the inclusion of halal meat at a popular burger chain in France. In light of French political secularism (laïcité), we demonstrate how power discursively operates through narratives on rights and moral responsibility to constitute, defend and challenge a certain state of privilege within the marketplace. Our resulting theoretical discussion extends existing studies on marketplace equality and the growing body of literature related to the “marketization of religion”.     

Global food demand,productivity growth,and the scarcity of land and water resources: a spatially explicit mathematical programming approach

In the coming decades, an increasing competition for global land and water resources can be expected, due to rising demand for food and bio‐energy production, biodiversity conservation, and changing production conditions due to climate change. The potential of technological change in agriculture to adapt to these trends is subject to considerable uncertainty. In order to simulate these combined effects in a spatially explicit way, we present a model of agricultural production and its impact on the environment (MAgPIE). MAgPIE is a mathematical programming model covering the most important agricultural crop and livestock production types in 10 economic regions worldwide at a spatial resolution of three by three degrees, i.e., approximately 300 by 300 km at the equator. It takes regional economic conditions as well as spatially explicit data on potential crop yields and land and water constraints into account and derives specific land‐use patterns for each grid cell. Shadow prices for binding constraints can be used to valuate resources for which in many places no markets exist, especially irrigation water. In this article, we describe the model structure and validation. We apply the model to possible future scenarios up to 2055 and derive required rates of technological change (i.e., yield increase) in agricultural production in order to meet future food demand.     

Motivations for Activity Participation as Predictors of Emerging Adults' Psychological Engagement in Leisure Activities

Psychological engagement has been identified as a critical factor in the potential benefits of emerging adults. leisure activity participation. Emerging adults. motivations for participation might be particularly important in predicting psychological engagement. In the present work, we report findings from a study of motivations for leisure participation and its associations with psychological engagement. In a sample of 183 undergraduate university students, we found that three of the five hypothesized motivators positively and significantly predicted greater psychological engagement. Specifically, greater psychological engagement was related to leisure participation motivated by a desire to learn and exercise skills and abilities, protect the self (for example, to alleviate guilt by helping others), and because of opportunities presented by others. favorable attitudes towards involvement.     

3毫米波十六通道焦平面辐射计数据采集与测试系统设计

为了研究无源毫米波成像特性,在毫米波辐射计成像系统理论和焦平面线阵扫描体制基础上,开发了3毫米波十六通道的辐射计数据采集与测试系统,给出了详细的硬件设计方案,实现了十六通道数据采集、传输、预处理和成像测试。最后通过成像试验,实现了7秒/帧的成像速率。得出的结论对研究无源毫米波实时成像具有指导意义。     

快速经济发展下县级土地利用/覆被空间变化分析

土地利用/覆被变化(LUCC)是人类活动对自然环境施加影响的显著表现形式。本文以案例的形式,运用LUCC度量模型和LUCC转移矩阵分析研究区清新县2001-2007年的LUCC空间格局变化,并对全县土地利用/覆被进行了分区。研究结果表明,清新县2001-2007年面积增加最多的为林地,而减小最多的为耕地,期间全县综合土地利用/覆被动态度为2.77%、土地利用/覆被强度从2.163增至2.172;同时,清新县土地利用/覆被存在着较为明显的空间差异,全县土地利用/覆被区划可分为南部综合服务中心区、中部产业转移区和北部生态脆弱区三个功能区。     

国内外黄金市场收益长记忆性比较研究\n——基于重标方差分析法

利用重标方差分析法,对比研究英国伦敦和中国上海黄金市场收益的长记忆性的结果表明：对于不同的q值,国内外黄金市场日收益率都存在显著的长记忆性。相比较而言,英国伦敦黄金市场日收益率的长记忆性更强。产生这一现象的深层原因在于我国黄金价格形成机制受到了较多的政府调控,而并不能简单地说我国黄金市场的效率高于英国伦敦黄金市场。     

基于ASP.NET网上考试系统的设计

随着计算机技术的快速发展和互联网的广泛应用。在教育领域里,网上考试系统利用学校现有的计算机软、硬件资源和网络资源服务功能,让学生能够不受时间和地域的限制在任何一个终端上进行考试。它可以减轻教师的工作负担,提高工作效率,直接分析考试试卷,有利于教师更好地掌握学生的学习情况。本系统采用ASP.NET设计开发网上考试系统,采用mysql数据库进行编译。     

企业信息化系统的面向对象客户／服务器实现

企业信息化管理是现代企业的重要标志,对企业信息化管理系统设计和实现方法的研究有着重大的现实意义和经济价值。本文基于面向对象方法建立系统对象模型,并通过ODBC连接VFP和SQL Server,与后台数据库通讯,使用VFP的可视化设计环境获得系统的友好原型,然后升迁到SQL Server上建立客户／服务器应用系统。     

直扩信号检测与估计的改进

对低信噪比下直接序列扩频(DS／SS)信号的检测和估计提出了一种新的改进思路。在通常数值处理前加设一预处理模块，该模块能改善白噪声背景下信号的信噪比，从而为进一步提高低信噪比信号检测与估计的能力给出了一条新的途径。
