西方文明与经济全球化

近代西方文明的发展表现出对世界经济的深刻影响力，全球化成为了不以人们意志为转移的历史趋势。在全球化的背景下，西方文化加紧了对外扩张的步伐，而其实质则是利益的扩张。清醒地认识这一点，是我们在文化发展中既顺应文化融合的大潮，超越狭隘的民族局限，积极与世界沟通对话；同时又不受制于西方文化扩张的影响，熔东西方文明于一炉，从而为世界经济的发展提供不竭动力，并使经济全球化的进程沿着我们所期待的方向发展的前提。     

Convergent cultural evolution and multilevel selection: Reply to comments on Janet Landa’s ‘The bioeconomics of homogenous middleman groups as adaptive units: Theory and empirical evidence viewed from a group selection framework’

The comments on Janet Landa’s (J Bioecon 10(3):259–278, 2008) target article provide a fascinating snapshot of how multilevel selection theory is perceived across several disciplines. When we focus on the zone of agreement among the commentators, Landa’s article provides an important example of convergent cultural evolution. When we focus on the zone of disagreement, we find a snapshot of the current status of the group selection controversy that goes beyond narrow scientific issues and requires a ‘truth and reconciliation’ process to resolve, as discussed in my series of blogs titled “Truth and Reconciliation for Group Selection” (Wilson , 2009) and briefly summarized here.

语言中的特有文化内涵一直是困扰译者的一大难题，甚至有的被译者认为根本是不可译。本文指出通过适当的文化置换和文化借用，以读者为取向，以归化和异化策略的平衡使用为手段，是解决文化断层的有效途径。     

An Investigation of the Association between Cultural Dimensions and Variations in Perceived Use of and Compliance with Internal Auditing Standards in 19 Countries

Using a large sample of chief audit executives and internal audit managers from 19 countries, we investigate potential associations between cultural dimensions and variations in perceived use/compliance with the internal auditing standards. We find uncertainty avoidance to be inversely related to both use and compliance. We also find assertiveness and human orientation to be positively related to compliance but not to use of Standards. Among control variables, we find positive associations for the length of Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) membership, professional certification in internal auditing, and hours of continuing professional education (CPE) training on both perceived use and compliance. Finally, we find “Cost of compliance” and “Compliance not expected in my country” to be inversely related to perceived use/compliance. Implications of these findings are discussed.

建设海南国际旅游岛成为人们关心的焦点之一。近年来海南省创新思路、深入挖掘本土文化内涵,旨在以本土文化推动旅游产业,使许多游客在欣赏自然山水的同时,更看到了山水背后蕴藏的文化内涵。本文分析建设海南国际旅游岛中的文化因素,提出更新认识、深度发掘旅游文化内涵,以提升旅游产业文化素质,从而构筑文化旅游产业发展的新优势,建设好海南国际旅游岛。     

Does distance matter for internationally-oriented small firms?

This paper assesses the contemporary relevance of distance and its key components in international business for young, internationally-oriented small firms. In doing so, it reconceptualizes the distance concept and investigates its relevance in American, British, and German firms' early foreign market selection. Economic, geographic, and cultural distance (based on Hofstede's and Schwartz's frameworks) for the three countries, along with psychic distance for the German firms, are considered. The results show that some components of distance still matter for internationally-oriented small firms and that cultural distance is sample source and concept sensitive. In addition, psychic distance acts as a mediator construct to the more objective, external distance measures of economic, geographic, and cultural distance, confirming the proposed distance framework.
