The workplace literature relating personality to CWB is integrated with complimentary literatures from other disciplines including developmental and social psychology. The literature is reviewed showing how both broad-based personality dimensions reflected in integrity tests and measures of the five factor model, and specific personality traits relate to counterproductive work behavior (CWB). A model is developed showing how different personality variables shown to relate to aggression and/or (CWB) might affect different steps in the process linking behavior to precipitating environmental conditions or events. Specifically Hostile Attribution Bias and Narcissism are most relevant to appraisal and attributions, Negative Affectivity and Trait Anger connect to negative emotions, and Locus of Control and Self-Control are thought to play a CWB inhibiting role. Distinctions among reactive, proactive, and relational aggression are extended to CWB.  相似文献

This essay reflects upon the past and present state of affairs regarding the influence that personality constructs have on predicting organizational outcomes of interest. The authors contend that the explanatory power of personality constructs has not reached its full potential. In order to maximize the utility of personality as a predictor of various behaviors, a research agenda must emerge to increase the precision of measurement at the item level. Additionally, programs of research that embrace the interdependence of personality constructs within an individual should be undertaken.  相似文献

This paper shows the development of a tourism product in a destination that uses the night sky as its main source of attraction. Using this innovative product has helped to create a distinctive image, which is likely to attract a more diverse range of visitors and has assisted in improving economic, social and environmental sustainability. First, we present an overview about sustainable tourism and the sky as a tourism resource followed by a case study, in Portugal, that illustrates the potential of Dark Sky activities for tourism development in rural regions. Employee satisfaction continues to be a key to an understanding of relatively high turnover rates within the hospitality industry. The present study explores the personality characteristics of employees who receive pay increases in the restaurant industry. One of the two facets of Type A personality ‘achievement striving’ was found to be positively related to all three measures of pay increases but the other facet ‘impatience and irritability’ was not related. The implications of the findings for selection, retention and motivation of restaurant employees are discussed.  相似文献

Hospitality servicescapes incorporate physical complexity and social interaction. These two features are often measured separately but rarely measured together in attempts to uncover consumer perceptions within these settings. A psychometric scale developed within the restaurant setting shows a five-dimensional structure for capturing the personality of a hospitality setting. In contrast to attribute-based measures, this measurement approach highlights the importance of service interactions in shaping consumer perceptions. The items proposed account for the dynamism of the setting including the heterogeneity possible due to high service levels. The scale indicates how certain consumer perceptions, as outlined in the dimensions of the proposed scale, are likely to influence consumer outcome behaviors. Managerially, the scale provides a more precise understanding of consumer perceptions within restaurants. As such, the scale can serve as an interesting positioning tool as well a method to evaluate consumer perceptions of restaurants.  相似文献

This study presents a netnographic discourse analysis of social media content generated around three high profile European Holocaust heritage sites: Ann Frank's House in Amsterdam, The Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial and Museum in Poland, and the Jewish Museum in Berlin, Germany. It identifies four salient discourses under the headings of Holocaust heritage as social memory, reactions to Holocaust heritage, obligation and ritual, and transgressive visitor behaviour which frame the values, existential anxieties, emotions, priorities and expectations of visitors. The findings will be of interest to stakeholders involved in the planning and management of Holocaust heritage since they provide unique access to a synthesis of unmediated visitor feedback on European Holocaust heritage experiences.  相似文献

In a multi-ethnic society, friendship among children might be expected to be overwhelmingly shaped by ethnicity and cultural heritage. Using an original panel data-set of classmate networks in multi-ethnic primary schools near Florence, Italy, (N=396 children in 2nd and 5th grade), we show instead that cognitive skills and personality traits matter as much as ethnicity in shaping friendships, thus playing the role of elective affinities. We test whether friends affect a child’s personality more than the other way round: to do this, we estimate peer effects. We only find non-significant effect of peers on math grades and a measure of intelligence (KBIT). For personality traits, peer effects are significant only for Extraversion. These findings are crucial for design of immigration policies: rather than emphasizing differences among ethnic groups, a farsighted policy could try to point these elective affinities among individuals.  相似文献
