人民币汇率改革的效应和趋势分析

通过对汇率改革以来人民币汇率走势和效应分析,我们认为,人民币汇率开始变得富有弹性、基本能够反映市场供求关系,而且2％的一次性升值幅度对宏观经济和企业层面的影响和冲击相对较小。但从市场趋势看,人民币还有进一步升值的空间。因此,走内需主导型发展道路、扩大对外直接投资、采取措施限制贸易顺差过快增长、加快人民币衍生产品市场建设是当前化解人民币升值压力和防范汇率风险的主要对策。

基于Google Earth的物流配送监控系统

在分析物流配送监控系统的基础上,设计了基于Google Earth的物流配送监控系统的架构和主要组成部分的功能,并对关键部分的技术实现进行了详细介绍。该系统将智能客户端获得的GPS定位信息利用GPRS无线传输技术发送到转发服务器,并在监控终端将该信息显示于Google Earth之上,从而达到对物流配送进行监控的目的。     

Internet searches and transactions on the Dutch housing market

We use Google searches of the word ‘mortgage’ to explain monthly housing transactions in the Netherlands in the period from 2004 until 2015. Our estimates indicate that Google searches of the previous months are significantly positively associated with housing transactions in the current month. This shows evidence that Internet search data can provide information about real market behaviour.     

Changes in Investors' Market Attention and Near-Term Stock Market Returns

We use Google Search volume to track changes investors' positive and negative market attention. Our results support the hypothesis that this information reflects investors' optimistic and pessimistic anticipation and can be used to predict near-term future returns. We find that changes in negative search term volume of “market crash” and “bear market” and changes in positive search term volume “market rally” explain near-term stock returns. Changes in investors' attention are partly related to past stock market returns, implying that investors are prone to pay attention to possible price reversals. These measures of market attention are potential gauges of investor sentiment.     

The impact of a conglomerate merger on its vendors and rivals – a case study of Google's acquisition of Motorola

This study explores the valuation effects of the conglomerate merger on an acquiring firm and its stakeholders. We examine Google's acquisition of Motorola and the impact that it had on Google's vendors and rivals. The empirical results suggest that the announcement of this deal led to positive market reaction among Android's vendors, primarily due to Google's ability to use Motorola's extensive patent portfolio to help protect Android's vendors from a potential patent infringement war in the future. Our results also find that when the Open Handset Alliance members obtain help from Motorola's patents or get new technology, an increase in shareholder wealth among Android's vendors and a decrease in shareholder wealth among Android's rivals are likely to occur.     

In search of retail investors: The effect of retail investor attention on odd lot trades

We study the effect of retail investor attention on odd lot trading. We observe that increases in abnormal Google search volume predict odd-lot trading. Importantly, this relationship is share price-sensitive: For stocks priced below $11, an increase in abnormal search volume leads to less odd lot trading. For stocks priced above $46, on the other hand, an increase in abnormal search volume leads to more odd lot trading. For a stock priced at $78 – the mean share price in our sample – a one standard deviation increase of abnormal search volume increases the average share of odd lot trading by 10 basis points. This effect is even stronger for more expensive stocks. Our results are consistent with attention-induced trading when investors face wealth constraints and are robust to alternative channels including news and institutional investor attention.

“How was your meal?” Examining customer experience using Google maps reviews

The purpose of this research is to examine the effects of restaurant attributes and the underlying factors impacting overall customer experience within a range of different restaurant types. To understand their experiences, this study analyses online reviews of restaurants which have become important sources of customer experience data. This current research utilises a combination of quantitative analyses to examine 935,386 Google Maps reviews of 5010 restaurants in London, Birmingham, and Manchester. The authors used the VADER sentiment analysis algorithm to measure the sentiment of four key restaurant attributes: food, service, atmosphere, and value. Logistic regression was conducted to test the relationships between these attributes and a 5-star rating. Furthermore, logistic regression was used to compare the changes of odds at different star rating levels. To understand the factors that drive positive and negative reviews, the top 30 food items of 8 types of restaurants were analysed.
