Economic and environmental impact of the CAP mid-term review on arable crop farming in South-western France

The issue addressed in this paper is whether implementation of the CAP MTR, (involving decoupled payments reduced by “modulations” and subject to cross-compliance measures) can be effective in improving the environmental impact of arable farming. The focus is on two French cross-compliance measures (compulsory buffer strips along rivers and crop diversity). A farm-level bio-economic model incorporating yield uncertainty is built and adjusted to represent two typical arable farms in the Southwest of France. The model also combines agro-environmental indicators. The results indicate that a simple decoupling of direct payments, without cross-compliance measures, has no impact on allocations between different crops. If cross-compliance measures are imposed, a small reduction in the cultivated area of irrigated crops is observed. The penalty levied (1% of the total subsidy paid) when farmers do not comply with the “buffer strips” requirement is sufficient for both farm-types. Decoupling and modulation result in a fall in the total gross margin of around 3%, principally because of the 5% modulation rate, while the “buffer strips” requirement leads to a further decrease of around 1%. Moreover, this requirement improves the environmental indicators at the farm level.

Norms as emergent properties of adaptive learning: The case of economic routines

Interaction among autonomous decision-makers is usually modelled in economics in game-theoretic terms or within the framework of General Equilibrium. Game-theoretic and General Equilibrium models deal almost exclusively with the existence of equilibria and do not analyse the processes which might lead to them. Even when existence proofs can be given, two questions are still open. The first concerns the possibility of multiple equilibria, which game theory has shown to be the case even in very simple models and which makes the outcome of interaction unpredictable. The second relates to the computability and complexity of the decision procedures which agents should adopt and questions the possibility of reaching an equilibrium by means of an algorithmically implementable strategy. Some theorems have recently proved that in many economically relevant problems equilibria are not computable. A different approach to the problem of strategic interaction is a “constructivist” one. Such a perspective, instead of being based upon an axiomatic view of human behaviour grounded on the principle of optimisation, focuses on algorithmically implementable “satisfycing” decision procedures. Once the axiomatic approach has been abandoned, decision procedures cannot be deduced from rationality assumptions, but must be the evolving outcome of a process of learning and adaptation to the particular environment in which the decision must be made. This paper considers one of the most recently proposed adaptive learning models: Genetic Programming and applies it to one the mostly studied and still controversial economic interaction environment, that of oligopolistic markets. Genetic Programming evolves decision procedures, represented by elements in the space of functions, balancing the exploitation of knowledge previously obtained with the search of more productive procedures. The results obtained are consistent with the evidence from the observation of the behaviour of real economic agents.     

高速铁路柔性时刻表编制研究

随着新兴信息技术与交通的不断融合发展,需求响应型交通已成为未来交通发展的新模式,而柔性时刻表编制问题是决定这一新模式能否在高速铁路应用的关键问题之一。基于旅客预约条件下的需求响应型高速铁路柔性时刻表编制问题,提出完全柔性和部分柔性2种编制模式,构建同时考虑列车开行收益和旅客平均偏差时间的双层优化模型,设计模拟退火算法求解,以厦深高速铁路为例进行案例分析。研究结果表明,柔性时刻表编制模型求解得出的时刻表能够较好地匹配旅客预约的出行时间,有效满足旅客预约需求,提高运营收益,对未来需求响应型高速铁路具有一定参考价值。     

Social Dependency: The Impact of Adolescent Female Culture

The purpose of this study is to identify the critical elements of adolescent girls' culture and to identify the impact of this culture on leisure behavior within an adventure education setting. Qualitative methods, specifically ethnographic focus groups and participant observation, were chosen as the most appropriate means to accomplish the goals of the study. The results suggest that adolescent girls see their world in terms of absolutes. Further, of the three innate psychological needs serving as the basis for intrinsically motivated behavior (Deci & Ryan, 1991), relatedness is the most critical concern for adolescent girls. Until this relatedness is achieved, it is unlikely that the goals of adventure and other recreation programs will be addressed or that girls will truly experience leisure. This overriding desire for status and acceptance, which was established as the theme of adolescent girls' culture, can be most accurately described as "social dependency."     

网上新股申购中的资金规划研究

网上新股申购通常被认为是风险较低而收益稳定的投资策略。由于新股投资机会较为密集且短期占用资金较多,面对多个申购机会的合理取舍及资金的高效使用将显得尤为重要。通过将新股申购问题抽象为一般连续投资下的资金规划问题,给出其约束方程,指出其求解方法,然后讨论了新股申购在两种目标下的资金规划,并与未做资金规划的简单方案进行比较,结果显示该方法有效地达到了规划目标,提高了整体收益。
