Chamberlin without differentiation: Soft capacity constrained price competition with free entry

We show that the long-term properties of price and cost in Chamberlin's monopolistic competition model can be reproduced with a soft capacity constrained price competition oligopoly model for a homogeneous good with free entry.

农村信贷市场长期存在结构性失衡问题，民间金融虽是弥补“麦克米伦缺口”的一个可选制度安排，但其往往缺乏规范的运作发展机制，相关治理供给又严重缺失。农村民间金融软法凭借其在创制方式、条文内容设置、运行模式、实施效力等维度上的独特价值优势，能够有效弥补“命令—控制”范式下单一硬法规制的结构性缺陷，建构起一套自成体系、符合新公共治理逻辑、绩效显著的秩序维持机制。农村民间金融软法治理应承载“增进农民民生福祉，优化农村金融资源配置，助力乡村振兴和共同富裕”的制度期许，在金融包容的理念指引下，围绕政府金融监管效能的提高，并依托相关软法与硬法的协同共治关系，达成由管控式向参与式的治理逻辑转向，推动农村民间金融的规范化发展。     

The Complementarity Between Signal Informativeness and Monitoring

A firm that must decide whether to retain or terminate a manager can rely on several sources of information to assess managerial ability. When it relies on a performance signal and monitoring, we show that a more informative signal can surprisingly increase the value of monitoring. Then, signal precision and monitoring are complements. This happens if a more precise information system makes some signals more negative indicators of managerial ability that still do not trigger termination. When the turnover cost is high enough and the manager is more entrenched after a positive performance, an increase in signal precision increases expected monitoring. In firms with a high turnover cost, a less informative signal is compounded by worse monitoring after a disappointing performance. This “bad corporate governance trap” makes it hard for these firms to eventually improve performance.

旋转映射信号将编码比特旋转移位后映射为符号，同时采用了隐性交织、加扰等技术，具有交织复杂度低、信道效率高等特点，是一种典型且使用较为广泛的短波通信信号。针对第三方接收条件下，频率选择性衰落造成该类信号难以有效接收的问题，推导了该类信号的软符号解映射、映射方法，提出了一种针对该类信号的多天线联合Turbo均衡算法，实现了软信息在均衡与译码之间的迭代交换。典型短波信道下的仿真结果表明，迭代4次后的两天线联合Turbo均衡在10-5误码率时相对两天线硬判决译码提供了约4 dB的增益，相对两天线软判决译码提供了约1 dB的增益，在10-4误码率时相对单天线Turbo均衡提供了约5.5 dB的增益。     

Practice Makes Better: Using Immersive Cases to Improve Student Performance on Day 1 of the Common Final Examination*

In the context of an accredited CPA program, we investigate whether an immersive case delivered over several weeks in a team-based environment in the Performance Management elective module improves student performance on Day 1 examinations and whether all students benefit equally from the immersive case. Results show that using an immersive case prior to Capstone 1 significantly improves student performance on practice Day 1 examinations and Day 1 of the Common Final Examination (CFE). Although high-ability students and non-English-as-a-second-language (ESL) students with co-op experience perform better regardless of whether an immersive case is used, ESL students benefit from using an immersive case when evaluating performance on Day 1 of the CFE. In addition, spending six to eight weeks preparing extensively for the CFE after graduate classes end in July seems to contribute to closing performance gaps between students. This study benefits the education process by identifying a tool that educators can use to improve performance on the CFE. It provides insights that may prove useful to CPA Canada and accredited post-secondary institutions as they revamp their programs to align with Competency Map 2.0.
