Exploring the influence of resource environments on absorptive capacity development: The case of emerging market firms

Research recognizes that emerging market firms (EMFs) have relatively underdeveloped absorptive capacity. Yet, scarce attention has been paid to the conditions that constrain or facilitate EMFs’ absorptive capacity development. In this article, we explore how differences in home country resource environments influence EMFs’ absorptive capacity. We suggest that home country institutions and factor markets influence EMFs’ choice among three learning strategies: duplicative imitation, creative imitation, and innovation. Building on the organizational learning perspective, we then explore how learning strategies of EMFs’ from different emerging economies influence their preferences with respect to sources of new knowledge, and consequently the implications of these strategic choices for their absorptive capacity.

提高物流专业学生学习兴趣的途径

以学生学习兴趣为分析视角,研究了河南工业大学物流管理专业学生的学习动力和积极性,探讨了影响学生学习兴趣的主要因素,并从学习兴趣点入手,提出提高学生学习兴趣的一些实践办法。研究发现,灵活多样的教学手段、教师知识的宽度与广度、学生需求的满足、主题式教学、小组式管理等是有效的实践途径。     

Does skill obsolescence increase the risk of employment loss?

In this article, we analyse whether technological change induces skill obsolescence and early labour market exit, and to what extent training participation and on the job learning reduce these risks. Using panel data on older workers, we find that workers report skill obsolescence more often when learning is a structural characteristic of the job. This perceived skill obsolescence is not related to a higher probability of losing employment. Instead, workers who experience skill obsolescence appear to learn more on the job and participate more often in training, which decreases the risk of losing employment. These results are consistent with the dynamic model of skill obsolescence and employment loss we develop in this article. Moreover, we find that when workers with long job tenures decrease their training participation, this is an early indicator of future job loss.

本研究采用平衡准实验设计,探讨英语教学过程中语言输入模态对书面语输出的影响。研究发现,视觉输入与听觉输入对不用语义关系的书面语输出有不同影响,且与受试英语水平存在交互效应;输入频数在不同输入模态下对不同语义关系输出影响不同,且与受试英语水平存在交互作用。     

The Case of the Missing Organizations: Co-operatives and the Textbooks

The author discusses the following seven issues affecting assessment of undergraduates in universities: decisionmaking and the selection of tests, the use of written and oral assignments to measure learning, the characteristics of grades and portfolios for evaluating students, opportunities for self-assessment and feedback to instructors, retention of learning and the testing for higher-ordered thinking, the psychology of students in the economics classroom, and the development of new tests as public goods. The author suggests ways that economics faculty can add new dimensions to their assessment practices, improve their understanding of assessment choices, use assessment to enhance the quality of student thinking, and conduct research studies on assessment questions.
