Human resource management in relation to generic strategies: a comparison of chemical and food&drink companies in the Netherlands and Great Britain

In this paper, specific personnel policies and their relationship to generic strategies are examined in the light of the concept of human resource management (HRM). Since data from twelve Dutch and eight British companies in the food&drink and chemical industries reveal that the implementation of HRM components is subject to a societal effect–and thus HRM has a different meaning in Dutch companies than in their British counterparts–a typology of HRM at a more strategic level is proposed to facilitate the analysis of the relationship between HRM and generic strategies. Although in the majority of cases the HRM policy supports the generic strategy pursued, many problems and paradoxes remain in the analysis of an HRM–strategy fit.

Human resource strategies and firm performance: what do we know and where do we need to go?

This research review focuses on the links between human resource strategies and organizational effectiveness. It is likely that bundles of, or configurations of, activities are more important in enhancing labour productivity than any single activity. However, studies are typically limited in theoretical rigour, have quite small samples and are typically non-cumulative. The empirical basis of strategic human resources management is thus circumscribed.     

我国核仪器行业发展面临的问题及对策研究

随着工业的发展,特别是核电产业的发展,与之相关的核仪器行业面临了前所未有的发展机遇,然而目前核仪器行业存在的资金投入不足、与进口产品差距大、制造设备陈旧、科研能力不足、缺乏行业标准及有效地行业沟通等问题极大地限制了我国核仪器行业的发展,主要的应对策略包括加大投资力度、鼓励科研、注重人才培养、鼓励对外交流学习、制定统一行业标准、加强国内企事业单位的联系合作等。     

Crisis management in information system projects: lessons of a case study

This case study is reflective of the action‐research perspective documents applied in an intervention to manage a crisis during an information technology development project. The aim was to better understand how tools used to solve unstructured problems might help resolve such crises. The development and implementation of an intervention utilizing multiple tools is described. As a result of the intervention, a shared meaning of the crisis emerged among the major stakeholders along with a consensus as to appropriate solutions and action steps. Work on the project resumed to the satisfaction of management. Recommendations for future research are offered. Copyright © 2010 ASAC. Published by John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

Abstract

Recent political, economic, and social changes occurring in Eastern Europe are providing opportunities for Western firms to expand to this region. This study presents evidence on the wealth effects associated with expansion by U.S. firms to Eastern European countries. The results of this study show that differential wealth effects are associated with announcements of different modes of expansion, and with country of expansion. The results suggest that Hungary and Poland are important for expansion to Eastern Europe, and that joint ventures should be the preferred mode of expansion for U.S. firms seeking to expand to Eastern Europe. The results also suggest that investors are able to discern between different levels of country risk.     

Trust as a key factor in successful relationships between consumers and retail service providers

Previous research has shown that trust plays a key role in the development of stable relationships between a service provider and its customers, and many authors have devoted considerable attention to identifying its antecedents and consequences. The aim of this study is to investigate these issues in the context of retail travel agencies, a service setting where new information technologies are questioning personal relationships and where the concepts of service quality and customer loyalty have become critical for differentiating from competitors.

功能对等理论强调首先在意义上,其次在风格上用目的语再现源语信息最接近的自然对应信息或相当信息。英语习语蕴含着丰富的文化信息,不仅具有鲜明的名族特色和地域特色,还集中体现了语言中的各种修辞手法。针对习语的这些文化特征,在翻译过程中,根据奈达功能对等理论,可采用完全,类比,抽象等翻译策略来翻译英语习语,达到不同民族文化之间更好的交流和沟通。
