This study explored the influence of personal values on destructive leader behavior. Student participants completed a managerial
assessment center that presented them with ambiguous leadership decisions and problems. Destructive behavior was defined as
harming organizational members or striving for short-term gains over long-term organizational goals. Results revealed that
individuals with self-enhancement values were more destructive than individuals with self-transcendence values were, with
the core values of power (self-enhancement) and universalism (self-transcendence) being most influential. Results also showed
that individuals defined and structured leadership problems in a manner that reflected their value systems, which in turn

In the past 20 years a body of research in behavioral and experimental economics has challenged classical economic theory. Yet, this body of research seems relatively unknown in business education. One behavioral test with implications for international business education has been the use of ultimatum games, which has more recently expanded to cross-cultural studies. Yet, virtually no cross-cultural studies have been conducted for subjects in Middle Eastern countries. One of the central findings from ultimatum game research and other variations is that individuals place a high value on fairness in transactions, a fundamentally ethical concept. This article reports a preliminary study of Kuwaiti and U.S. business students. Results are consistent with previous studies, showing Kuwaiti subjects to be in line with subjects from developed economies. AbstractWithin a modern family life, roles have changed significantly; however, relatively little attention has been given to the increased health and longevity of parents. This article focuses on the tensions relating to the transitional role of parent as ‘carer of the child’ to child as ‘carer of the parent’ as parents age. This article focuses on the experiences of adult children as they care for their parents and the related tensions that emerge and coping strategies that are adopted. Adopting an interpretive approach we shed light on the decision-making practices around shopping, residential arrangements and other consumer choices and how they take place in complex arenas of intricate family interactions, influence and power. Key themes that emerged were strategies adopted by both the adult child and ageing parent to attain or retain control in an increasingly sensitive environment where there is no roadmap to guide either party. 相似文献

Coveted or Overlooked? The Psychology of Bidding for Comparable Listings in Digital Auctions 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
This article elaborates on, and provides evidence of the herd behavior bias -- the tendency to gravitate toward, and bid for, auction listings with one or more existing bids, ignoring comparable or even more attractive unbid-for listings available at the same time -- exhibited by buyers in digital auctions. Some listings attract many bidders and become coveted, the center of bidding attention, while other equivalent or even superior listings are overlooked, receiving no bids at all. Empirical analysis using data from digital auctions across different product categories shows that this herd behavior bias is attenuated with increasing bid price, but increases with the difficulty of evaluating quality. The practical implications of these findings, and promising research opportunities in this area are also discussed. 相似文献

Personal web usage, that is, non-work-related use of the Internet for personal purposes during work hours, is a pervasive behavior observed in the daily work environment. U.S. companies have implemented several countermeasures to cope with personal Web usage, but those measures have not successfully mitigated this behavior. Considering the significance of personal Web usage, we need to understand why personal Web usage is not alleviated in current organizations. The goal of this study is to present an empirical investigation of why employees continue personal Web usage based on an extended theory of planned behavior. We are particularly interested in how people's perceptions of moral dimensions contribute to personal Web usage, recognizing that our work environment becomes more Web-embedded. We conducted a field survey of 426 U.S. business professionals and analyzed the data by using partial least squares. As a result, we demonstrate that an individual's attitude, subjective norm, denial of responsibility, self-efficacy, personal computer availability, seclusion of office, and workload are significant factors affecting personal Web usage. Interestingly, current organizational preventive efforts (e.g., Web-based activity monitoring and filtering systems and policies) and moral obligation are not as significant as we originally expected. 以灌溉用水户水权交易过程中相关主体的行为决策为研究线索,构建包含地方政府、供水机构、农户三方主体演化博弈模型,并基于新疆昌吉州的498份农户调查数据,利用MATLAB工具对灌溉用水户水权交易过程中相关主体决策进行仿真分析。结果表明:地方政府通过设定合理的奖惩基数,同时将农户的回购水权价格提高至执行水价的5.58倍以上,可有效激励供水机构采取积极的供水策略;供水机构的供水效率是决定灌溉用水户水权交易达成的关键因素,供水效率的提升不仅能增强农户的交易意愿,还可显著降低地方政府的水权回购成本;农户参与水权交易的意愿受到供水机构积极经营的影响,其交易水权产生增收效果要求供水效率至少需额外提升0.034,且地方政府出台更具激励性的水权回购价格。 相似文献
