范蠡的商业哲学思想探析

范蠡是春秋晚期著名政治家,曾在吴越争霸的历史舞台上扮演重要的角色,同时也因其成功的经商活动被后世尊称为"商圣"。范蠡特别强调对"时"的选择和把握,"待时而动"和"择时而退"是他从政、经商成功的重要基础。选择合适的经商地点和经营项目,在经商活动中常抱有回馈社会的心态,也是范蠡"商道"的重要内容。探求"上商近道"的哲学内涵及其在商业活动中的呈现,对中华传统商业文化的复兴与传承有一定的借鉴意义。     

高校思想政治工作必须与时俱进

面对广泛而深刻的时代变革,高校思想政治工作必须与时俱进,做到突出主题,更新载体,转变思维方 式,加大科技含量。这是时代发展对加强和改进高校思想政治工作的必然要求。     

No easy solutions: lessons learned from an intervention to reduce clinic non‐attendance rates in a Scottish hospital

Hospital waiting lists and times have become the public measure of government success or failure. This research examined existing hospital outpatient capacity and considered the age‐old problem of patients who fail to attend their appointment. A reduction in did‐not‐attend (DNA) rates would maximize utilization of capacity, ensure early diagnosis and drive down waiting times. The research was designed to determine whether the introduction of outpatient letters, which included the need for positive confirmation of attendance, decreased the incidence of patient non‐attendance. Utilizing an experimental design, data gathered at two Plastic Surgery clinics were compared over two three‐month periods, pre‐ and post‐implementation. Total attendance and non‐attendance were examined in terms of new and review patients, gender and age profile. The research concludes that the intervention tested in this form can now be discounted thus allowing the exploration of subtler solutions.     

Diversity and relative arbitrage in equity markets

An equity market is called diverse if no single stock is ever allowed to dominate the entire market in terms of relative capitalization. In the context of the standard Itô-process model initiated by Samuelson (1965) we formulate this property (and the allied, successively weaker notions of weak diversity and asymptotic weak diversity) in precise terms. We show that diversity is possible to achieve, but delicate. Several examples are provided which illustrate these notions and show that weakly-diverse markets contain relative arbitrage opportunities: it is possible to outperform or underperform such markets over any given time-horizon. The existence of this type of relative arbitrage does not interfere with the development of contingent claim valuation, and has consequences for the pricing of long-term warrants and for put-call parity. 新经济时代我国民企的转型及其加强知识转移的必然性分析

基于信息化、知识化和网络化为特征的新经济时代带来了各种全球化的机遇和挑战,迫使自身还存在一些较普遍不利症状的我国民营企业进行转型升级,以应对新经济时代带来的机遇和挑战以及国内外一些其他的制约因素。我国民营企业转型升级的核心路径需要通过加强知识转移来进行支撑和推动;同时,新经济时代的时代标志、竞争节奏、财富增长的新内涵、战略竞争资源的转变以及竞争的多态性和复杂性等特征都要求民营企业加强知识转移,动态地进行转型升级以适应新经济时代不断发展的竞争态势。     

Optimal distribution of the injured in a multi-type transportation network with damage-dependent travel times: Two metaheuristic approaches

We study a location-allocation-routing problem for distribution of the injured in a disaster response scenario, considering a three-type transportation network with separate links. A circle-based approach to estimate the impacts of the disaster is presented. After formulating relations for computing the percentage of the injured, the destruction percentage and the damage-dependent travel times, the problem is formulated as an integer nonlinear program. We utilize a genetic algorithm and a discrete version of the imperialist competitive algorithm for solving large problems. An empirical study focused on earthquakes in Tabriz, Iran, illustrates applicability of the proposed model and performance of the proposed algorithms.

Modelling economic hysteresis losses caused by sunk adjustment costs

Transition from one economic equilibrium to another as a consequence of shocks is often associated with sunk adjustment costs. Firm-specific sunk market entry investments (or sunk market exit costs) in case of a reaction to price shocks are an example. These adjustment costs lead to a dynamic supply pattern similar to hysteresis. In analogy to “hysteresis losses” in ferromagnetism, the authors explicitly model dynamic adjustment losses in the course of market entry and exit cycles. They start from the micro level of a single firm and use explicit aggregation tools from hysteresis theory in mathematics and physics to calculate dynamic losses. The authors show that strong market fluctuations generate disproportionately large hysteresis losses for producers. This could give a reason for the implementation of stabilizing measures and policies to prevent strong (price) variations or, alternatively, to reduce the sunk entry and exit costs.
