To help consumers deal with increasing amounts of information, many online retailers offer simple decision aids, such as the ability to sort on a particular attribute or eliminate undesired alternatives. The authors propose that consumers use simple decision aids as substitutes for cognitive effort, potentially with adverse consequences for decision making. An experimental study shows that providing unrestricted sorting increases decision quality only when choice conflict is low; beyond a certain point, greater use of the decision aid is associated with declines in decision quality. A second study shows that that allowing consumers to sort alternatives only one time enhances decision quality and, when choice conflict is high, reduces decision effort. A third study shows that providing elimination as well as sorting tools helps mitigate the negative effects of simple decision aids. Although the availability of sorting alone hurts decision quality when choice conflict is high, decision quality under choice conflict is improved when both sorting and elimination tools are provided. Implications for retail practice are discussed.  相似文献

The unique role of retail sales associates combined with retailers desire to establish relational selling, make associates vulnerable to work–family conflict (WFC). Unfortunately, research examining how retail sales associates cope with a WFC is limited. This research investigates relationships between WFC, job stress, and three dimensions of salesperson deviance: organizational, interpersonal, and frontline. Findings indicate that WFC has a significant direct effect on all three deviant behaviors, as well as job stress. Interestingly, the relationship between job stress and deviant behavior is not significant. This finding adds to the debate regarding job stress as a mediator between WFC and deviant behavior or outcome variable.  相似文献

为解决多航空器在飞行区场面活动时存在的冲突问题,以优化后的滑行路径距离作为目标代价函数,提出一种滑动时间窗与GA相融合的冲突解脱模型。首先在滑行规则、安全间隔与滑行道实际条件等约束条件下构建场面滑行路径模型;其次提出基于滑动时间窗与GA融合的求解算法;最后选取成都双流机场为例进行仿真,并与传统GA算法进行对比分析,证明基于改进GA的算法模型在飞行区冲突解脱上更具有鲁棒性与自适应性。  相似文献

公共冲突治理中存在辅助型第三方、化解型第三方和保障型第三方三类干预角色,三类角色各自对角色担任者有着特定的要求。对这三类干预角色的担任,政府和社会组织都有着各自的适应性。政府在公共冲突治理中主要担任了制动者、化解者等保障型第三方和化解型第三方角色;社会组织主要担任了信息员、评估者、专家和顾问等辅助型第三方以及关系促进者、调解者、仲裁者、方案建议者等化解型第三方角色。总体而言,政府和社会组织对各自角色的担任是适宜的,但仍有调整的空间:政府需要强化对冲突化解的持续推动者、冲突后续过程的监管者等角色的担任,并需要与社会组织分享冲突化解者的角色;社会组织需要更加积极去承担辅助者角色。为达到良好的干预效果,政府和社会组织需分工负责,各司其职,对应该承担的角色不逃避,对不应该承担的角色不越位,最终实现角色互补,共同构筑公共冲突治理的主体体系。  相似文献

对于现代企业发展而言,商业秘密权是一项尤为重要的财产权利,它类似于企业的知识产权,是企业的巨额无形资产,具有很高的市场价值。在商战中,保护企业的商业秘密非常重要。在我国,企业往往通过与员工签订竞业禁止协议的方式,要求离职员工保守其商业秘密。但是自主择业权是宪法赋予劳动者的一项基本权利,关系到劳动者的生存及发展,属于基本人权范畴,具有宪法权利的属性,应该予以很好的保护。因此,需要解决好劳动者的自主择业权与企业的商业秘密权二者之间的冲突关系。  相似文献

For the last twenty years, eastern Sri Lanka has witnessed a bitter and bloody civil conflict. This paper explores the experience of female-headed households in the region. Only partially the product of war, such households cannot be bundled together as a social problem with a single solution. Our study endorses the feminist suspicion of falsely homogenizing accounts of women's lives and suggests instead an alternative emphasis on the many ways in which gendered relations of dominance and subordination are maintained. With its co-existing Muslim, Tamil, and Sinhala groups, eastern Sri Lanka facilitates the exploration of ethnicity as a source of variation. The households included in this study share a common structure and face the same economic problems, yet ethnic differences divide them. The paper charts the problems, strategies, and partial triumphs of these lone mothers and proposes policies to help them in their mundane but heroic struggle.  相似文献

Although balancing work-related and non-work-related time demands is an ongoing concern for many hotel workers, there is a dearth of research examining workers’ satisfaction with their work schedule flexibility. Using a sample drawn from nine different hotel properties in South Korea, this study finds that workers’ levels of emotional intelligence and overall job satisfaction serve as antecedents of their schedule flexibility satisfaction. Moreover, the study also finds that decreased turnover intent is a consequence of schedule flexibility satisfaction. Based upon these findings, both managerial and research implications are presented.  相似文献

I extend the standard materialistic rational choice model of conflict to consider groups. In particular, I consider how the aggregate amount of conflict in society depends on which groups form and oppose each other. The study is motivated by empirical findings about the relationship between inequality, conflict and economic development. I focus on a salient comparison: ethnic groups vs. social classes. I show that, contrary to the conventional wisdom, class conflict is not necessarily worse than ethnic conflict. In fact, ethnic conflict is general worse when the distribution of income is more equal. I also investigate the impact of the fact that while ethnicity is immutable, since there is social mobility, class is not. I show that the direct impact of mobility of conflict is as conventionally believed, but that there are important indirect effects which make the net effect ambiguous. The authors have previously developed and described a decision tree model for addressing cross-cultural ethical conflicts. The model is intended to provide an ethically sound yet pragmatic tool for decision makers facing such situations. This paper presents the results of an empirical test of the model in an educational setting with a sample of business students. Students trained to use the model demonstrated significantly more flexibility and appropriateness in their decisions on case scenarios than those who were not trained. The implications for use of the model in educational settings and recommendations for future research are discussed.  相似文献

In the inter-stakeholder relations in environmental and natural resource management disputes, farmers and environmentalists have traditionally fallen along opposing lines arguably due to seemingly incompatible values and fundamental differences between the groups. However, the expansion of the coal seam gas (CSG) industry has resulted in outrage and opposition from farming groups, environmentalists, and communities, leading to an alliance of these “strange bedfellows”. This study explored the opposition movement to CSG in Australia with the use of techniques from social psychology to investigate whether shared values provided the common ground for the alliance. An online survey of values was conducted (N = 197) with members of the CSG opposition alliance. No evidence was found to support the hypothesis that this alliance of stakeholders is comprised of two distinct sub-groups; farmers and environmentalists. The personal values of the respondents were highly inter-compatible, and aligned with social altruism. Sub-clusters were identified which corresponded with the extent to which respondents considered the CSG industry to impact on their lives. This research challenges the appropriateness of predetermined stakeholder classifications being applied to environmental and natural resource management issues, and highlights values as a relevant social factor in the cooperation potential of oft-conflicting stakeholder groups.  相似文献
