We introduce a new method for measuring the decision to lie in experiments. In the game, the decision to lie increases own payment independent of the counterpart's decision, but potentially at a cost for the counterpart. We identify at the individual level the decision to lie, and measure how individuals react to different incentives to lie. Furthermore we investigate how lying behavior changes over time. Our method allows us to classify people into types, including those who never lie, those who always lie, and those who react to incentives to lie. We suggest this method as a useful instrument for examining factors that influence the decision to lie. 相似文献

Several non-experimental studies claim that heterogeneity among individuals reduces trust. A few experimental studies have
examined the effects of naturally-occurring differences among subjects on trusting behavior, and in contrast, most have not
supported these claims. We adopt a novel approach by inducing heterogeneity among subjects in a canonical trust experiment.
We accomplish this by varying the show-up payments given to subjects for participating in the experiment. We find that this
induced inequality does not consistently affect first- or second-mover behavior in the classic trust game in the manner predicted
by either previous theoretical work or empirical studies of survey-based measures of trust. Further, the effect of inequality
on trust, in terms of both sign and significance, depends on whether show-up payments are awarded publicly or privately.

The labelling of genetically modified (GM) foods is an important policy issue, as consumers' attitudes towards these foods appear to be quite sensitive to information about their potential benefits and risks. Because it is difficult for labels to differ across consumers, differences in reactions to label information could lead to conflicts across consumer groups or to different market outcomes. Using factor and cluster analysis, we uncover three consumer segments with different attitudes to the risks and benefits of GM foods. Our segmentation‐based analysis on consumer reactions to information points out important differences across consumers. Not only did we find differences across segments in how they view the credibility of GM‐related information, we also find differences in how information influences segments' perceptions of the product, and in their likelihood to buy. 相似文献
