《五公山人王先生行略》为新见李塨的一篇佚文,作于康熙二十七年（1688）,《恕谷后集》未收。佚文为明末清初北学派学者王余佑的传记,篇幅较长,其中不少细节为其他文献所不道,对于了解北学派的师承关系以及明末清初遗民社会生活具有重要学术价值。     

Impact of humor on survey responses

This study reports the results of an investigation of the use of humor to stimulate response rates in a mail survey of sales executives in 1000 firms. Results indicate that humor has little effect on response rate, response speed, or response bias and completeness.     

An Empirical Comparison of Sales Forecasting Models

There has been a veritable industry of forecasting models in recent decades, spurred partly by planners' search for certainty and partly by the data crunching capabilities of computers. In this article, Sanjay-kumar Rao tests two families of models on some common data sets to see how they compare. He examines how well the models fit the data and how reliable they are as forecasting tools.     

The valuation of subsidies in kind and their effects on costs

This study focuses on the effects of subsidies in kind on cost minimizing behavior and the resulting estimates of costs. It is shown that subsidies in kind may distort the usual equilibrium conditions and cost-output relationships among firms in the same industry. Even if they do not, the value of subsidized inputs to the firm, in terms of reduced costs, may differ from its market value. Methods are developed to cope with both problems, and estimations of the value and importance of subsidies in kind to the credit union industry are performed.     

Product competitiveness evaluation— quantitative analysis for development strategy

Product competitiveness is the most important concern for industry and is decided by the interaction of engineering activity with the market environment. This paper describes the characteristics of technological product competitiveness in the market, by use of an ordinal scaling method based on rivalry comparison. The analysis was made for actual data extracted from data on consumer electrical products evaluated over a long period of time. Four methods were examined to quantify ordinal data for competitive evaluation elements. The maximum correlation ratio method was proved to be most reasonable for extracting detailed characteristics regarding product competitiveness in the market. It was also confirmed how the highest and lowest rankings in some element influence total competitiveness. The most competitive product in the electrical consumer market gets the highest ranking in performance evaluation, first or second ranking in timing, and above average ranking in cost, with no major setback in reliability.

The future employment impacts of industrial robots : An input-output approach

An input-output framework is employed to estimate the indirect as well as direct effects of industrial robots on employment by industry sector and occupation. Net employment impacts are defined as the combined effects of the production and the use of industrial robots under the assumption that the demand for goods produced with this new technology is unaffected. These employment effects are estimated as the difference between a base economy (1977) and the same economy with an additional robot-producing sector and given (1990) stocks of robots installed in manufacturing industries. Six scenarios are defined by alternative levels of Robotics sector output and installed robots. The results show that job displacement is 4.5 to 6.2 times greater than job creation, that under the most extreme scenario the aggregate net job loss is 718,000, about 0.7 percent of total 1984 employment, and that the growth occupations (engineers) are highly skilled and white-collar while the declining occupations (welders, painters, machine operators, laborers) are relatively low skilled and blue-collar.
