Tourism and cultural revival

Cultural change is a recurrent concern in tourism anthropology studies. Host societies frequently remodel their culture following the creation of a tourist resort. But, that does not necessarily imply an acculturating process, since what actually takes place is pragmatic cultural production work in response to the touristic demands that offer consolidated economic alternatives and livelihood. As for the Pataxó Indians of Porto Seguro of Brazil, they have sponsored a “cultural revival” process. In other words, they have generated the traditions that start being exhibited commercially in arenas where the prospect of emergent ethnic tourism is perceived.     

Mass tourism and the dilemmas of modernization in Pacific Island communities

This paper relates global discussions of tourism as a means of development to the history of cultural contacts in the Pacific. The paper reviews the relevance of the existing literature on social and cultural impacts of tourism to the Pacific and suggests implications for policy makers and community leaders. The existing literature is found to be methodologically suspect and does not provide helpful knowledge to policy-makers.

Cultural variations in strategic issue interpretation: relating cultural uncertainty avoidance to controllability in discriminating threat and opportunity

We investigate cultural variations in the strategic issue labels of threats and opportunities. In a survey of 276 American and international respondents, we investigate the sensitivity of issue attributes that discriminate between threat and opportunity. We find that the cultural value of uncertainty avoidance (UA) had a significant effect: Compared to low UA cultures, individuals from high UA cultures were significantly more sensitive to controllability in perceiving strategic issues. However, other cultural value dimensions (individualism, masculinity, power distance) did not have similar effects. Our results point to the need to link specific cultural dimensions to specific aspects of strategic issue analysis. Copyright © 2003 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.     

旅游地社会文化环境变迁机制试研究

本文探讨的重点,包括以下方面:①制约旅游地社会文化环境变迁的动因在于外界旅游流对旅游地的静态平衡系统产生冲击和干扰,分析旅游地社会文化环境变迁,必须从构成“流“的要素入手;②旅游者及其携带而来的物能流与旅游地各主体要素(政府机构、旅游企业、旅游地原生居民等)的竞争与协调产生旅游地社会文化环境变迁的动力机制.     

徽派建筑文化资本的符号化及消费研究

文章基于文化资本理论厘清了徽派建筑文化资本的内涵特征,并根据符号消费原理研究分析了徽派建筑文化资本的符号化结构系统是由多种"能指"和"所指"元素组成。结合徽派建筑文化资本的符号化消费主要方式,研究探讨了徽派建筑文化资本符号化消费的价值功能。     

Exploring Visitor Experiences,Activities and Benefits at Three Religious Tourism Sites

This research examines and compares the experiences of visitors (N = 534) to three different Christian religious heritage sites: Canterbury Cathedral, the Shrine of Our Lady of Walsingham and the Glastonbury Abbey Christian pilgrimage festival. Employing the activity, setting, experience and benefit framework, the findings indicate that the three religious sites attract visitors who seek different kinds of experiences and report different kinds of benefits. Results indicate that restorative experiences and benefits often overshadow the spiritual or cognitive benefits that many believe to be the primary outcomes of religious tourism. These results challenge traditional ideas about what it means to be a visitor at historical religious sites. Copyright © 2014 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.     

历史文化街区综合评价及保护利用研究——以旅顺太阳沟为例

基于模糊综合评判法和层次分析法,在传统的历史文化街区综合价值评价的基础之上,引入环境价值、使用价值等因素,构建历史文化街区综合评估评价体系及模型,并以旅顺太阳沟历史文化街区为例进行案例分析,系统评估其多维价值,为历史文化街区的保护与利用提供科学依据。通过对太阳沟的实证分析发现,建筑物的使用价值占有较大的评价权重。原关东军司令部旧址、旅顺博物馆、原关东都督府旧址、原工科大学旧址的评分值较高。建筑保护与整治应根据各单体建筑的状况动态推进,建议采取"全景式"复归策略,强化街区内人文地理标识。     

关天经济区文化旅游发展研究——基于SWOT—PEST分析

关天经济区在发展文化旅游方面具有丰富的资源。在地理和政治区位、经济基础和客户资源等方面存在明显优势,但同时也存在着地区间合作规划不够细化、发展不平衡、从业人员素质不高、金融基础不够完善等问题。国家级经济区的建设、旅游品牌的创建、交通网络的完善和世界文化旅游发展的新趋势为关天经济区旅游业带来难得的发展机遇,但旅游基础设施有待完善、休闲旅游方式的兴起和新技术对其产业链的发展也带来挑战和冲击。文章从政治、经济、社会、技术等四个角度对关天经济区文化旅游的优势、劣势、机会和威胁进行系统分析,提出加强区域合作、加大资金投入、提高人员素质、树立品牌形象、运用新技术等策略,以促进关天经济区文化旅游产业的发展。     

文化消费:繁荣活跃文化市场的根本问题——以福建省文化消费为例

文化市场的繁荣活跃,离不开文化生产与文化消费之间的良性循环互动。文化消费是文化生产的直接目的和文化再生产的原动力,只有撬动文化消费的支点才能从根本上实现文化市场的繁荣活跃。针对当前文化消费总量偏低、城乡文化消费失衡、文化消费结构层次不高等问题,需要构建"政府—企业—行业组织"三元一体的互动模式,准确定位三者在拓展文化消费中的角色,采取多管齐下、协调推进、综合解决等措施,以有效激活文化市场,实现文化产业又好又快发展。
