Research increasingly shows interest in the motives and characteristics of entrepreneurs in the tourism and hospitality industry. Small and medium-sized family firms dominate this industry. Learning from the concept of entrepreneurial orientation and family business research, this explorative study aims at analysing entrepreneurial behaviours and their effect on performance as perceived by owner-managers of hospitality family businesses. The authors conduct narrative in-depth interviews to understand the managers' meaning of entrepreneurship and performance, and discuss the results in the light of existing entrepreneurship literature. Results indicate that family firms in hospitality and tourism are peculiar, and their embeddedness in the destinations and regions outlines their entrepreneurial behaviour against Schumpeter's definition of growth-oriented entrepreneurship.  相似文献

This study explored entrepreneurial values in Johannesburg's informal sector. Using responses to open-ended questions in a survey of 359 informal traders, the author analysed the way Western and indigenous (African) values mix to form hybrid values. The resulting understanding of hybridity makes it apparent that these traders exhibit both kinds of value in varying forms. In this paper the implications of the emergence of hybrid values, as a form of entrepreneurial capital, are explored using Bourdieu's notion of embodied capital. On this basis it is proposed that hybrid values are of material benefit to traders through conversion into other forms of capital, such as financial capital. More research is required, however, to investigate further how hybrid values translate into material gain in practice.  相似文献

This research paper generates new insights into renewal processes that may occur in peripheral regions. Key findings are presented from an explorative study on a regionally clustered automotive-testing industry, located in northern Sweden. The findings suggest that despite theoretically unfavourable conditions it is possible to progress regional industry after a peripheral setting's socio-economic relapses. Moreover, this research shows how, notwithstanding the importance of profitable service offerings, an entrepreneurial environment can be encouraged within a peripheral region and subsequent renewal achieved by advancing local networks, improving internationalization and enhancing local infrastructures related to a service-based regional industry. Consequently this research offers us a glimpse into a pioneering service-based renewal case which, in essence, differs from previously reported entrepreneurship scholarship.  相似文献

This paper explores whether entrepreneurship can help less successful regions to improve their regional economic situation, without all the benefits that entrepreneurship brings when being ‘stripped out’ to more successful regions. The paper uses the idea that peripheral regions possess qualities of tradition and underdevelopment, and that these help to anchor new firms into these regions, resistant to their concentration in core regions. The paper explores whether particular entrepreneurial events can be regarded as ‘densifying’ the regional entrepreneurial environment, thereby making a positive contribution to its economic development. The paper explores the role of these negative anchors to the entrepreneurial events and the densification process by following a sequence of high-technology spin-out firms in the North East of England. Using a realist methodology attempting to interview all the firms within the sequence which could be found, the paper discovers that quite positive advantages exist within these negative qualities.The paper then considers whether these processes, such as plant closure, might drive entrepreneurship in all regions.  相似文献

This paper analyses the determinants of business income for rural households in Nicaragua. A sample of 1030 households was studied in order to assess the importance of material and behavioural factors that influence income from business activity. The households are involved in manufacturing, trade, services or have a mixture of businesses. They generally have a low income and asset value. Households supplement their income from wages and agricultural activities. To estimate non-farm business income per employed person we analyse the impact of resources, location, entrepreneurial experience and trust. Our results show that household resources and entrepreneurial experience are significant determinants for business income in all sectors. Trust is also important, particularly generalized trust. The contribution of other forms of trust, such as institutional trust, depends on the sector in which households participate.  相似文献

新生代农民工创业是大众创业、万众创新的重要组成部分,有利于推动新型城镇化建设和推进我国经济社会健康发展。提升新生代农民工创业意愿,推进新生代农民工创业活动开展,需要分析影响其创业意向的因素。文章从认知视角出发,构建社会网络、创业自我效能感和创业意向的理论模型,考察了新生代农民工社会网络对创业意向的作用机理。实证研究表明,新生代农民工社会网络对创业意向具有正向影响,并且社会网络还通过创业自我效能感间接影响创业意向,创业自我效能感在社会网络与创业意向关系中起到部分中介作用。据此结论,提出改革二元制度、加大创业培训支持以及完善创业支持体系等提升新生代农民工创业意向的对策建议。  相似文献

在山西经济转型时期,非资源型创业企业对当地经济发展的作用日益凸显.本文从创业学习视角出发,通过对山西非资源型创业企业的多案例分析,探究创业企业的成长机理.研究结果表明,创业学习通过创业战略推动创业企业成长;并发现创业企业处于不同的发展阶段,选择的创业学习方式也存在一定的差异;在企业创建阶段,主要表现为知识导向的创业学习;在企业成长阶段、发展瓶颈阶段和转型升级阶段,主要表现为问题导向的创业学习和目标导向的创业学习.  相似文献
